Hello all.... Why should you join ASSCC? - we look like we will have 24+ Saloons competitors and 10+ Super Saloons this year.
It is unlikely non members will get to race most meetings this year in the Saloon class. You do a great job communicating but a word of caution, do NOT go down the pathway of Baypark in earlier years, and or others who seek to limit, restrict, discourage visitors, as it is ultimately a one way street down hill. ALL competitors are customers, potential members. A thought, a word of caution ... Put in place a requirement of saloon members to confirm their entry and appearance at a meeting, say, NO later than the Tuesday prior to a meeting. Encourage visitors to register their intentions by the same time. This will then give you time to ensure ALL competitors are noted in the program (sadly missing at most events is all competitors). If I ended up with entry numbers too high for one field, I'd guarantee everyone two races to qualify for the FINAL. Chances are ALL cars running will do the final. If the promotion balks at the time available, I'd rather trim a couple of laps of races to ensure more racing and more competitors. The smaller field makes for cleaner, accident and yellow light free racing, reduced cost to the competitor in repairs, reduced race time, better spectacle. It's a win win. Good for the club, good for the competitors and great for visitors, and even better for spectators. I raced at Baypark in fields of 39 (one race) in earlier times. Arrogance and other contributing factors had their fields over the years plummet, feature races of 6 cars. There is a correlation between competitor numbers and spectator numbers. Just a thought.

Hello Murray, I know what you are saying, and I would like to allow other competitors as much as possible. I have already advised the promoter that Saloons will need to run AvBvC format (3 heats but each car runs in only 2) to allow 24 competitors per night but limit the heats to 16 cars. The bigger issue is pit space. There were plans for this to be increased until another group decided they wanted the whole pool of cash and threw a massive spanner in the works. Also, my thoughts are that ASSCC members get first option to run. Note this is ASSCC members not Auckland contracted cars. There have been a number of drivers who have become members in previous years yet have run with different letters on their car. Yes it is another cost, but the membership is a lot less than the SNZ license (which is a whole different debate). Another benefit of joining ASSCC (and another club) is the driver/car are eligible for tropies and awards at the ASSCC prizegiving. This happened last season when a driver running a non A car took home some awards. My message was not to say "other tracks go away" it was more a message to tell them to think of the benefits of spending an extra $100 over the season. p.s - have I met you yet? If not, come over and say hi next time you come to WP. My pink hi-vis and propeller cap make me easy to spot. John

According to the wise on Wednesday's night. There will be more pit space available. The fence is meant to be being moved out the back to allow for maybe 20 more cars. I know it's not much but it's better than nothing.

I hope all class's are as well supported as the saloons and supers. WP deserve the support of drivers of all grades and spectators as they seem to be the club that has worked tirelessly behind the scene to overcome the debacle of the closure of the stands, working with the council , getting pushbacks as no funding allocated to knock the stands down then promised new stadium and track at present site with both AK tracks using the site. It appears thru my eyes only, that when the other club realised they wouldn't be the king pin in running the new site they came up with the cunning plan [ like Baldrick] of shifting to Colin Dale and approaching council and selling WP down the drain. How WP can be run for years with limited seating due to no funds from council to knock down the stands which have been deemed unsafe, yet they have the funds to provide new track and stands for SPL when they slip in the back door with an offer to operate at a site that they have openly turned down over the last 15 yrs. Hope council remember they promised WP so much, have shafted them now and ever since the stand debacle, so what is WP future. Now is the time for all grades and fans to show council that WP is alive and well by well attended meetings. It is guys like John W who will keep the club alive. The club has many John W minded people who work tirelessly behind the scene to keep the club alive. Hopefully it's future can be decided so money can be spent to spruce the place up and make punters feel like they are appreciated for their attendance. Sorry John W for drifting off your topic. As I've said previously WP need all the support they can muster from both drivers and spectators, since the other track decided to go it alone and abandon the proposed joint venture track to be built at WP . As John W has stated, will the other track be ready for their proposed start date when WS close's. WP was dealt a death knell blow, but with a dedicated team they will survive and be stronger for it. Shame Percy has signed up with the other track, as I'm sure he would enjoy and give good write ups to the WP track as they rise from the ash's and put on a stellar season.

Massage to all those the enjoy Speedway and would like to get involved more (a chance for those spectators that want to be involved but do not know how to get started).
Waikaraka Park are looking for dedicated infield volunteers for the upcoming season. You do not need to have specific speedway knowledge, but will need motorsport experience. You will also need to be focused and available (and keen) to assist most Saturdays during the season. If you are interested, or know someone who is keen, please make contact with me ASAP via message here. Thank you John - Saloon Class Rep, Waikaraka Park
