If they poor Ratepayers money into the other place of interest ,why hasnt it come up for tender ,as it has been stated profits are made ,from ratepayers funding ... If you are talking about WP having rate payers money poured into it, the only money council has spent there was a 50:50 funding deal with the club for structural repairs to the grandstand back in 1986. Other than that I think you will find the rate payer has not spent 1c on WP in its 50 years of operation. The club is a not for profit, so any money made goes back into prize money, subsidised membership, functions etc. There is no profit to shareholders. There is also no 'venue hire agreement' with a commercial entity to tender - just a lease to a not for profit 'community organisation'. I think the difference is what the article is about - the less than transparent change from an open tendered venue hire agreement to commercial organisations to a 30 year lease, effectively handing commercial control to one entity for the next 32 years unchallenged and without any Due Diligence. That alone is worth the question - the $15m funding thrown into the deal raises a whole lot of other questions. WP has nothing to do with the deal or the questions coming out, and should be left alone. This is an 'open wheel' issue to sort out - You can't rubbish WP in one breath MIDWAY and then drag it back into this debate as you see fit. Its nothing to do with them.

So mr Greame h post was not valid where it stated the club made profits according to your post ? you mentioned Venue Hire ,how come Waiuku car club hired the track for winter race meets , as well as Businesses could hire the track off the club for there own jolopy type promotions ,drifting in the pits was a private promotion , Willy Kay came knocking on the door ,Smash fest may also entered the venue hire list ... Bruce Roberston runs two other tracks as a Promoter ,does he not get payed by the club ,as a club run promoter ...

Bruce Roberston runs two other tracks as a Promoter ,does he not get payed by the club ,as a club run promoter ... Of course it makes a profit - why do you think it only costs $100 to have an 'A' on the door and get 20 nights of racing and not have to pay to get in. This thread is not about WP - it should be left alone to deal with its own council issues which it is doing quietly in the background and in a way that will not add fuel to the fire or undermine the open wheel deal. I am not being silly here - I may have my personal opinions which I feel are free to be shared, knocked down, put straight or what ever - but as these articles appear in the media and as certain councillors sense political opportunity, please note and remember the silence from the other side of town. Silence from the WP executive team, given their own council funding issues and the speculation in the media, says a hell of a lot for the integrity of that group of people to not get in the middle of the council putting a lot of money into the sport. NO more WP on this thread please. The article seems to raise a number of issues around long standing competing interests and personalities squabbling over control of the sport. In all of this the competitors, who actually put the most money and commitment behind the sport, have had no voice what so ever. That is the most interesting thing for me. The fight over control will only serve to hurt the competitors and the sports reputation in Auckland in the long run and no where I have I heard a thought or opinion from an Auckland open wheel competitor. Carefully, and not wanting to put your nose out of joint again MIDWAY, I'll back out of this thread now.
