Midgets 1st Michael pickens 2nd Brock maskovich 3rd Scott Buckley 4th chris mccutcheon 5th Breyton Davison
sprintcars 1st Matthew leversedge 2nd Dean Brindle 3rd Jamie larsen 4th Brian Edwards
tqs 1st Ryan Baker 2nd scott Baker 3rd Lawrence Baker 4th Ryan Barry
Good nights racing on very bumpy racetrack pickens comes through from grid 14 to the front just 11 laps. win his second straight feature.. 60th in total western springs speedway.
sprintcars pickens again was the quickest winning both his heat races starting off the front leading for about 5 laps. then pulling off what look be front end issue. unfortunately no repeat of last weeks Double victories.. win went youngster from Ruapuna matthew leversedge getting his maiden win. minus no power steering, that was very popular win for him.
sprintcar nz test team take on usa and Australia December 1st. Michael pickens and Jamie Larsen
in tqs was Baker trifecta with Ryan holding off scott and Father Lawrence 3rd place.

Track seemed again to be a car killer and took a few names out of contention. There was a lot of comment from Standring on behalf of the broadcast team that it's due to the (western) springs underneath and that the new track at Colin Dale will save everything.
My recollection is that on older surfaces this problem was much less evident and I wonder if they still haven't got the right track down. Can someone more qualified offer some insight?

Definitely front end issue - right hand lower radius rod tore off the front axle. I think Pickens was lucky it didn't take the top one as well and dump him into the wall.

The million dollar sprint car challenge, a lot of people bagged it saying impossible etc (which is mostly true) but I think was actually pretty well received all around. I dont know you would want to do again but credit where credit is due they threw in something new and was received well by the competitors and the crowd seemed to get amongst it.

There is no short term or quick answers ,the track is ,what it is for everyone come race night . Nobody likes to race and wreck there cars either This topic is on the minds of most fans ,racers ,etc every season across the board at most tracks .. I try not to stir sh!t or sling mud, but I'm a bit amazed by the acceptance of "it is what it is, so get over it" attitude to the continually very poor track conditions at Western Springs. It also amazes me that nobody's been seriously hurt as a result of it. Even if I was a very skilled 5 times Nascar champion I wouldn't be very keen on hurtling around there at 100 miles an hour. Check out Jamie Larsen's facebook racing page to see the damage caused to his car and lucky near miss of injury he had due to a massive piece of the track flying into his car: www.facebook.com/jamielarsenmotorsports/Everybody can criticize Palmy for being too narrow, but it never gets like this. Neither does Harrisville. Something must be done, for the sake of draining sponsors/owners money due to needless damage, better racing conditions, and safety. There, I've said it. I feel better. Probably be no more moaning from me for a while. Cheers.

So how many, racers that felt the track conditions were to rough on the night stopped racing and parked up for the night in protest ?? I will grant you this if it had been the sidechairs racing on that track they would simply park up for night ,bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbut how many others did .. But never mind a solution has been found it seem s ,good old Percy likes the track so much at wacky park he,s shifting it to the Springs ,and he has posted a ripper of a suggestion on the teams Nationals poor old wacky park there will be nothing left ....Sob Oh just to keep the amusement going ,i wonder who it may of been that once helped graded the track ,watered the track ,rolled the track with his truck and trailer unit ,and set the track ,amongst many other items on the agenda .oh yes i wonder who ?

There is major concern amount of gear being torn up just first few meetings. you only have look at tq 46 flipped his heat got car back together, repaired it then flipped again his next heat.. for some drivers who don't have big budgets, this continues could be seeing reduction in car numbers unless something is done improve track conditions. definitely worrying especially with some big meetings around the corner.

When I referred to older tracks earlier I was thinking of 10 years ago or so. I don't recall them being this rutted or having such gouges. Yet the springs under the track etc exsited back then. Am I just remembering incorrectly or is the number of new tracks over the last few years become the problem not the cause? Is it possible to just go back to what worked? (Assuming I'm not remembering incorrectly of course)

I am just gobsmacked been going springs 40 years back on the old cinders trac never quite same amount of issues that they have encountered over last 5 years. obviously wasnt same amount of competitors over 140 so we are told. now the track gone away from being dusty now very chunky with clumps of clay track deteoriation. someone in the know who has degree in race tracks.. what is the answer making western springs track used to be. i remember when we had red sticky terracotta clay which was great. tried so many different materials get it right, does appear from spectator seems be more towards extra cars now on the springs track. hey love hear someone who has degree in track surfaces can tell those who are what is happening. for many years springs wasnt so rutty and massive holes like there is nowadays

Good points timbudd. I too wish there was someone out there with a degree in track surfaces to help explain what the hell is going wrong - but somehow I doubt there is. Nonetheless this is a very important topic. Best it has it own thread....
