also Friday Night is The Salute To Goodie. Not much advertising about such an important race. Plenty of coverage on Facebook. Excited to see the match-up of Kofoid against the north island drivers. I suspect Mr Kofoid will have too much for our northern drivers but Larsen and McDonald both traditionally perform well at Ruapuna. Looking forward to this one.

Will be interesting to see how both Connor Rangi and Jayden Hodge a couple of young chargers go against some of the best drivers from around the country and the young kid from America. Jamie Duff is sure to be there in the mix and Daniel Anderson has performed strongly at Ruapuna in the past so could be a bit of a dark horse. I am hoping that my favourite South Island driver "The Flying Farmer" pins his ears back and smokes the lot of them. Will be two epic weekends of Sprint Car action down South with the national title the following weekend, looking forward to travelling down for both events.

Is he a good peddler? Who's gear is he in?

Connor Rangi and Jayden Dodge are certaintly the young chargers down here at the moment along with USA visitor Buddy Kofoid who has lifted the game a notch. But Jamie Duff is still up there lowering lap records at Cromwell and still winning at Ruapuna. Other South island drivers still filling top spots are Caleb Baughan,Sam O'Callaghan,Luke Keegan,Matt Honeywell,Daniel Anderson,Ray Baughan,Martin Harcourt,Shaun Ashton, Stephen Duff and of course Matt Leversedge who has been racing out of Western Springs.Undoubtably North island drivers are coming with their A game but yes the competition has got better down every year thanks to the War of the Wings series.Jason Pryde lives in Australia family originally from Southland.Car that he will be driving here is owned by local Christchurch driver Brent Gaudion.

Good line up should be a barn burner.
Interested to see how the young yank and the Aussie go.

the Salute To Goodie is basically a memorial race in the memory of the late great Sprintcar Racer Noel "Goodie" Goodwin.
one of the all time greats and one of the real big characters of kiwi speedway and motorsport in general.

Just a note to add to the salute to Goodie race is one of Ruapuna's young guns in the sprintcars Jayden Dodge. His Mother Wendy was Goodie's partner when he passed away.Wendy herself was Sprintcar competitor many years ago but unfortunately suffered an illness which curtailed her racing career.

Awesome stuff. Was one of the real characters of the sport. Such a champion bloke. Watched him for many years. The ol kiwi on the tail tank when he was running the 1nz. Great attitude and always happy to accommodate.

Watching and listening to this on Speedway live I see Kofoid won his first race with a best lap of 14 seconds, anyone know what the lap record is?

The young yank wins from Larsen and leversidge. Duff went over and jmac started down the back. Not sure what happened there. By the sounds the young man is the real deal.

The lap record is 12.68 secs.Jamie Duff winning one of the earlier races clocked a 13.4 sec lap.The track went from drivey to slick from pole to mid track with a reasonable cush and heavy from mid track to the wall. The heavy caught a few and so did the lumpy bit coming out of turn 2.But there were options out there.Buddy didn't win all the races but got most of them. There was good showings from Jamie Duff (whom got the set up wrong in the salute to Goodie) plus Jamie Larsen,Matt Leversedge,Matt Honeywell and Rodney Wood at times.Mixed bag for the rest of the drivers including DanieL Anderson who drove right over Nigel Colvin going into turn one the result was cartwheels in the air and the end of his night. See what happens tommorrow night for Gold cup.

Was a sketchy ride and a degree of luck there to come away nearly Intact.

Anyone know why Wood got put back to last place before the start when he was meant to be on I think grid 8. Listening to the commentator it sounded like this was another race that could have possibly been canned due to the curfew. Why don't clubs make the main event the second last race?
