What’s the record for the most western springs feature wins in one season ? Pickens would have to be getting close to that this year

Western Springs has been the place to be this season but last night was not one of those nights.
I found it a tough watch. Track had excessive moisture to start the meeting which made things tough for the first stanza of races. But the track came right in the second half of the meeting and I'm struggling to find an excuse for the amount of stoppages we saw.

Pickens has 8 feature wins this season over Midget & sprintcar. Two seasons ago i think was 12 features.. 9 in midget and 3 sprintcar. not sure what most for single season would be. Allan Wakeling managed win 12 features out of 14.

He won 11 Western Springs features in the 2016/17 season. Currently he has 8 in season 2018/19.

You do realise NZ doesn't stop at the bombays I guess you will be seated next to Tim Shadbolt at the sprintcar GP ,he could tell you how great life was when he lived as a Westie in west Auckland ...

One thing people forget is that Butterworth won all his midget features from the rear of the field. A record that will never be broken.

For sure Barry did win most if not all features from the rear of the field, but I also think there was a big difference between top machinery and the rest !! Barry Butterworth is certainly a legend of our sport and had such a big following. There was also the great rivalry with Ted Tracey which added to the excitement each night. But we are just so lucky to be witnessing somebody else re-writing the record books in front of our eyes.

I found some YouTube videos last night of the test series some time in the 70s. Barry Butterworth, Ted Tracey and Owen Shaw for the Kiwis. Mel Kenyon, Rich Vogler and Sleepy Tripp for the yanks. Cant remember the Aussies because as usual they were also rans. There was one moment when Kenyon passed Butterworth who came straight back at him and barged his way past. When interviewed Barry described it as a contact sport. Ah, those were the days.
