Just reading the crazy news that a streetstock went over the catch fence at Beachlands tonight, the great news is that nobody has been seriously hurt in the incident, must have been extremely scary for all involved

Was a very freakish incident. I don’t think you could repeat it if you tried.

Glad no serious injury. Any footage? It was being streamed by the pits tv, but the meeting and stream was called off as a result. Any footage would be used in the subsequent investigations. Posted below by spuddy. Snz, the club and driver have reportedly given permission for the release of the footage

Wow! A freak accident - amazing how the bottom car during the roll "flicked up" the other streetstock up and over the fence! What would you change? Check the safety fence for stronger stability but would that have stopped it? Warn people verbally via announcer at commencement that speedway can be dangerous? I'm glad no one seriously injured or worse.

Very crazy those girls walking past are very lucky
SNZ and there Engineering Wizkid who invented the Snz spring retainers need to invent a new SNZ Streetstock Retainer Fence and sell it back to there licenced tracks at $40,000 a peice 😎

Tonight the front two rows at the other end have been blocked off from use. At the end where the incident happened I can see fences as well. Straits understandable are the same. It’s probably a smart move so soon after then incident to show a desire to prevent it happening again. Wonder if we might see some Lon term changes at other tracks to create more of a buffer. Not that you’d ever expect last night to happen again.

Years ago i recall a midget(?) Going over the f3nce at waikaraks park.and in to the pits. Snz added another metre or two to the top of the fences. Not sure what can be done here. But the astronaut in the hawkesbay last week a fair height as well.

Higher fence with the top angled in like the nascar / V8 Supercar fences Put up finer mesh while at it to stop mud and debris
Move seating few rows back ( Extend minimum distance ) from the fence on the corners

Yes all fences were changed after the Shayne Alach crash, the Streetstock crash at Dunedin was a bit of a freak one with the rolling car flicking the other car straight up and over the fence, how high do you put a fence up and I suppose it's up to the spectator how close you want to sit to the track, sometimes you have to use a bit of comen sense, how the Streetstock never hit anyone is amazing thankfully 🙂

Good sense must prevail.

One of the problems you are faced with is many tracks were built when cars were slower and to a hieght that was then standard in meeting the requirements .Railway irons used with wire ropes and of course wire netting ,many were built by club volunteers on shoe string budgets . Now it is becoming apparent that with more speed ,faster cars ,bigger hits ,safety fences need to be looked at ,but by who SNZ is reluctant in moving forward at the best of times ,and OSH well unless you have a good bank balance the cost will be horrendous . We as a sport need to look further a head than its present level ,there are just to many incidents like this happening every season and getting brushed aside like some one said it wont happen again ,unfortunately it will but this time worse outcomes are bound to happen and do ..

Something needs to be done its for the better of the sport No one needs to get killed before something is done about it
If the tracks with the smaller crowd areas they may need to invest in moving the surrounding fences back further into the carparks and perhaps invest in more grand stand style seating We could solve the outside flat tyre issue here too
They are investing into the future of the sport no point cutting costs on saftey and risking it all

Something that struck me, is why some fans where walking through the danger zone, shouldn't they been have been walking behind the crowd.

Can build higher fences and this and that with the mesh, but doesn’t matter what you build in this incident, as you have a huge chunk of steel flying through the air at pace and that angle which is probably always going to end up with the same end result

Will not solve the problem entirely but do not have walkways down by the track on the turns, only have them up by upper fence line of the stadium.
Also best not to be walking around with your back to the track when racing is going on.
