I went though past pages & seen there has not been a post on one off the best driver I think our sport has ever seen, the one & only Barry Butterworth our real true outlaw, so if anyone has any photos & stories to post that would be great. Thanks everyone

Awww,Mate now you're talking.. A true legend of our sport and always the pioneer. Had the great pleasure of meeting him at Ellesmere in 1990 when all the guns went down for the Pacific Sprintcar Series. He spent alot of the time in the catch ditch through a power steering fault but managed to salvage 3rd place. A very proud man. His crew he treated like Kings and attributed all of his success's to them. "Geez,Man all I have to do is point the car, they do all the real work around here!"(Unquote) Many a tear shed when he died, for sure. It has been said that when he died and went upstairs,St Peter asked him if there was any racecars he would like to have a go in.He tried rally cars, indy cars, race trucks etc and said they were OK but nothing gives me the buzz Speedway does.So St Peter took him to Heavens local Speedway. There was a lone midget car on the track going for it!!! Barry said "Whos that giving that car sh#it??" St Peter replied "Oh him?,Thats just God.He trying to be Barry Butterworth!!!" RIP Bazza!!!!

Still searching for my own photos, but here are a couple more to be going on with. In the #7 Fussell & Cartwright Offy in 1965/66. Scan of a Bruce Kent photo.99 Leo Vercoe in the background. In the #91 Johnny Peers car, BB was a bit of an animal in this car, he shipped it over to NZ after loosing the #7 drive and was in constant trouble with the officials. Might have been the start of the Buttercrunch era.

What is it restored or still racing I saw a photo of it from a couple of seasons ago.Still in race condition but may have been in a different chassis(?) I WILL DO A BIT OF RESEARCH(IE.FIND THE PHOTO) Alan Botherway is a fantastic engineer and may have rebuilt the original chassis.

Experimented with left side weight and offset engines years before it became the norm.Good , bad or indifferent,he could win in them!! This sport of ours needs more Barry Butterworths!!! (PS I was going to write more Barry B's but realised we had one still---part time journalist, part time hot dog seller etc.... LOL ;D)

Nice tribute there Chris!! Ive posted somewhere before that one of my fondest memories of BB was at the 1984 NZ Sprintcar Champs at Ruapuna. Stockcar type racing throughout all the heats with Roger Gleeson and BB(in the Autex Snooper car) banging wheels and taking each other out. Final heat ran at about 1.00am from memory with Gleeson coming out on top albeit under alot of controversy. The stuff of legends!!!!!

Here are a few more scans of the Great one. I am guessing Colin Irwin took the first one and the other two are Bruce Kent, or the midget one could be mine! Barry in 1974 with Trevor Morris. Another one of the lethal mod he brought back from Aussie.
