how come the sprintcars are the only class that run this STUPID format for a NZ title? Its American, hard to follow and very UNFAIR! How can you win a nz title in 1 race, that doesnt prove your the counrties best, it proves you won 1 race. I dont even recall seeing the 56a car on friday night, wot colour is it, whats the sponsors? did it even do the time trials? You cant beat 3 heats, 3 lots of points,1 true winner. I found friday night very confusing and hard to follow, lets run the NZ tiltle the NZ way.

I agree devilracer even though 3 heats can drag on etc it's still more entertaining & a better system as proven with the NZ supers & everyone gets even grid draws, No need to worry about the 10 o'clock deadline in the city if you start finals night at 5pm, Also time trials are uneven when track conditions can change so quick.

Here he is doing the time trial on friday (about the 12th one out) Wasnt in the top 15 times but won his heat which got him thru to 2nd day without fighting for survival. Every picture I got of him is blurry...... must be really fast Must have done well tonight to have won pole position. The rest is history. Examples from final race

Carl Wilson did everything right to win the champs. It doesn't matter how he won it or what format was run he is a fantastic racer and deserves the crown of 1nz.
I have interests in another sprint car team so am not saying this because i'm a Carl Wilson Cheerleader.
I was not a fan of the format that we had to run but I think that the 3 race format is terrable which is clear to see by the crap that went on in the NZ Super Saloon Champs. Last year was 1am and this year wasn't much better full of protests.
NZ Sprintcars - No Protests - 1 winner - Carl Wilson.
Well done mate, you canfinally get over your broken drive shaft when Finemore won a few years ago.

How can you win a nz title in 1 race, that doesnt prove your the counrties best, it proves you won 1 race. It's actually a series of races culminating in a one race final, where the best performers to date get to start off the front. Not too dissimilar to a 3-race format if you think about it, where many of the starters in the final race (of 3) have no show of winning. I think Hydroton says it all re the relative merits. And Carl Wilson's speed has been far from unnoticed at recent Baypark meetings, let me tell you.

I agree Helios...i think its a good format- only bit of luck perhaps is the inversion for the dash...1 race- 1 winner.. how many times does the best Stockcar or streetie win...seldom because of team tactics....in 3 race format always good to draw a front for 1st race because $ to donuts for 2nd and 3rd race there will have been withdrawls and essentially points are 'gifted' to those starting subsequent races from the back...its great to be in the 21st century where the car across the line wins...none of that protest crap

Also, with regards to the paying public, the one race final has less frustration and confusion, as they know at the conclusion of the race who is the champion, no waiting for points to be tallied, no waiting for protests which change the results, etc.
Winner of the race is champ, simple, public go home satisfied.
Also Baypark would struggle to run the 3 heat format due to their curfew. If the 3rd heat was to be completed just before the curfew, and then a run-off was needed what would they do? Come back next meeting? yeah right.

Could have been a Brindle win if hadn't spun (twice, T4 + T1) 2 laps short of the finnish. I'm sure he lead into T3 from the start, maybe Kerry Jones behind him. Hard to tell but I think Brindle was still in front before his spin. Unless he got passed going through traffic of course.
I like the Outlaw format. Clean and simple. The hot lap time trials = good for sponsors as we we get to see all paint jobs unobstructed. The smaller feilds for the heats must be good to reduce accident damge. Same for the little fights for grid position. Then for the final you have all the best cars and drivers off the front of the grid. There were only two stoppages in the final... a little tangle T1+2 soon after the start and Brindel comming off towards the end. The major crash was on or after the last lap.
I like it.

I would have combined the two consolation sprintcar races at the end together and given them at least a twelve lap race, that time curfew what a pain in the ar$e. I had picked Carl Wilson, Kerry Jones and Ricky Logan in my trifector. Big up's to Skinny after his engine trouble's also to Aaron McConachgy? 57m(p) awesome drive. Did he make it into the top ten in the end?
