quick update from night one of qualifing,
After a few issues were brought to my attention in vehicle checking we were out and ready to go for the qualfing night of the NZ Champs in Huntly, the track was looking in great shape although looked to be a bit one lined, as some proved there was grip out wide to pass if you were brave and skilled enough,
i had a plan to finish all 3 heats, not do anything dumb as my number one goal this weekend was to qualify
I drew grid 11 for race one, got a ok start and was made a few places early on had a bit of a battle with the 78a car, i tried to get around the outside of him but could not make it stick, this allowed Shane McDonald in the flying V6 up the inside and he made enough room for both of us to get up the inside of the 78a car, ended up 9th, i was hoping to make a few more places in this race to make things easier later on,
race 2 and off grid 4, with some fast cars ahead of me, 2 ex NZ Super Saloons Champs Steve Williams and Maurice Cowling were on the front row, and i had Terry Corbin inside me as well,
this race was pretty exciting although i did not try to much, the top 4 cars pulled away on each restart, with Myself and Terry looking for openings when Maurice and Steve were battling, ended up 4th
race 4 and off grid 9, i new i had to make some passes to make the field, start went well but near the end of the second lap there was a crash right in front of me coming out of turn 4, i managed to avoid it but a few guys got by me and since we crossed the finish line before the yellows came on it ended up a bit confusing to who was ment to be where, the white board came out and all it said was 67 then 21, then a marshall pointed for me to pass the 63 a car, of course Steve Followed as he was instructed to, then they put Nige back in front of us again, Off the restart and Steve showed me how good the outside line was and went past, Terry Corbin followed, i ended up behind the 74a and 63H cars for most the race, i was a bit hesistant to try to run the top but had a few goes in the last few laps to no avail, ended up 7th
I ended up tied for 5th in the group with Scott Landsdown, enough to send me to the finals night, i ma stoked to be able to qualify on my first attempt, now its finals time,
i have the video footage but not the time to edit it for the web yet, ill get it up early next week
thank for reading
