2nd saloon heat had 8 or 9 popped/flat tyres, thats gotta be a record? |
apparently after the meeting there was a saloon drivers get together, organised by drivers to try and get that second lazyboy race dropped and rerun at another time, sounds bizzare?? can any1 shed some light on this?? and the outcome??? Maybe that lazyboy chair is worth more than an NZ title when you have old bones ;D

Have to agree about the red lights, there is no excuse for continuing half a lap on the red light, then after been stopped by the flag marshall to continue another half lap. Saw a ministock get sent off for doing half a corner, why is there one rule for him and another for the saloon driver who continued. Then to see the same saloon, 1NZ, go out in the feature race and take two deliberate hits at another car was disgraceful. Yet again no penalty for this. If he wants to drive like he is in a stockcar then he should change to the stockcar races. It is sad as a supporter of speedway to see the experienced drivers behave like this to a young driver, or is it that they just don't like getting beaten by a girl. Williams, Togood and McClymont you do nothing for the sport when you abuse and take deliberate shots at other drivers. My young children have followed Michelle Wymers career from ministocks up to saloons and she always has a smile for them and takes the time to speak to them, she is a credit to the sport. Have never heard or seen her behave in this manner.

You mentioned the no stopping on a red light. Not sure if your a racer or not but I can tell you first hand that the afternoon sun makes it incredibly difficult to see the red light, did you consider the possibility that Brent mistook the light for a caution. Brent is a good driver, In fact he's the best in the country at present and arguably the best driver of the last decade in his division. Brent got to the front by looking forward rather then at the field behind him therefore doesn't run a mirror so wouldn't have seen the field stop. It's a shame when somebody in the stands cheerleading for their favourite driver allows an incident in a race to completely cloud your view of another driver IE Brent, anything that Brent has done negatively is the only thing on your mind. It's easy to post a quick dig at the current national champion for a bad thing that he may or may not have done.. alot easier then taking note of the good things he's done because you would have to write a book. Brent McClymont, a true gentleman and ambassador of the sport and just like Michelle to your children, Brent NEVER misses the opportunity to say hi to mine knowing all of them by there first names. In Tauranga we're building a Bridge maybe Matamata should as well so you could get over it.

Wasn't at that meet, but would be suprised if Brent was as unsportsman as is suggested. He is one of the most personable and genuine guys I know. He has battled well with Michelle on a fair and regular basis without incident. Both are good, quick and competitive. Just what the crowd wants to see.

i know of one person in a class that wasn't at drivers briefing at all and he was still allowed to race. maybe a roll call is called for at drivers briefing!
as for the red lights, the marshalls were waving red flags, it was obvious the red lights were on and there were still saloons driving round, obviously they are better than other classes and dont get sent off.
also, i saw a few cars tearing up the grass, including one bike pushing off a sprintcar that left nice tyre marks on the grass, wonder if they get fined?
why is there 2 or 3 events for saloons/supers/sprint cars through out the year and only 1 special event for the stockcars? (i know there is a teams event, but this is not for everyone!)
i see on the club website it is advertising the saloon La-Z-Boy series on the 7th Feb....

RED LIGHTS ARE RARELY USED in saloon races. This is not an excuse, just a contributing reason as to why saloon reaction is not good. By contrast it seems to me the red light is used constantly in stockcar classes! Also a high proportion a drivers can't see further than their bonnet scoop and only know to stop when back in their pit space! Officials loose credibility when they demonstrate a lack of consistency. An issue at most tracks. Baypark has to be one of the most obvious for 'discretionary' application of rules and BS. I overhear a competitor ask the steward for a photocopy of the lap times of his race, who gets the reply, "No. Intellectual property rights don't allow me to provide them."Makes a change from blaming OSH or citing the Privacy Acvt!!
