Do you think that the drug and alcohol policy should go for not only the driver but the crew as well and shoul be done each meeting, I dont have or could find a copy of the policy if someone has one could they up load one.

The drug and alcohol policy does apply to the crew and the driver is responsible for them and can be fined

I total agree it should be compulsory for all drivers and crew to take drugs.

At least then my crew wont stand out in the pits

As i have been involved in stockcars for 38 years a lot has changed in this time,

There's no way I'd take a drug/alcohol test at any track.

As i volunteer my time i dont get paid to help. I do it for the good of the sport.

Whats wrong with a few JD's friday night or before racing. it would still be in your system.

Im sure alot has changed in the 38 years you have been involved Grubby, cars have got faster, people have presumably got smarter and more business savy. It may have been ok 38 years ago to get behind the wheel of a road car/rally car/stockcar but it certainly shouldnt be tolerated today.

How would you feel if you put a driver into a brand new $100k superstock, you knew he had been drinking, he wasnt tested, you let him out onto the track in that car and he caused a major incident which not only destroyed that car but caused major injuries to others in the process...??

One would presume you would not have the same atttitude if a Motorsport NZ official asked you to take a test before getting into a Rally Car?? Or you were stopped by a Police Officer whilst driving a road car and asked to give a breath test?

Why should getting behind the wheel of a dirt track vehicle be any different?

If we want Speedway to be taken seriously in NZ and considered a premier spectator sport as Rallying, V8's etc are we can no longer afford to have such attitudes, we need to move with the times and adopt strict anti-doping policies in line with what other organisations have.

Nats you should be on SNZ with those silly comments, As above the word Crew, Which is what i am, The sport has changed there way to much PC bulls*hit involed, maybe afew superstock drivers need a drink or two so they get back to what they were built to do,

I have no problem with a drink or two, hell i would be driven to drink to having to put up with some of the rubbish that goes on behind the scenes, however there still has to be a level of responsibility and professionalism involved.

The rule book states that the Driver is responsible for his crews behaviour...fair enough, but surely any good crew should also be responsible for their driver and making sure they are achieving there best whether it be flag racing or out there with making the hard hits that we all love to see.....

If i was to get a stand down because of my crew thats life, No difference for them if i got a stood down for somthing i done.

What I mean is one night at Rotorua I got pulled out of the hat for a random alcohol breath check should my crew who where there that night have been check to I think they should have been and with places like Rotorua and Huntly it is easy to find the number of crew somone has because it is recorded when you get them so say Joe Bloggs get pulled out for a random test they then look and see that he has three crew with him but only brings two of them to the test he can not race until all his crew have been tested and cleared of alcohol and drugs and if he or one of his crew fail the test he and his crew get a holiday from speedway.

at ruapuna, driver and 1 crew get randomly tested, 3 car numbers from each class i believe, gets drawn from a hat, so thats 3 drivers and 3 crew members, from the it is narrowed down to 1 driver and his/hers crew member for the test. Prob is they always seasm to pick on us? ;D ;D ;D cant understand why

i think random testing is great and more should be down, esp crew, we are the ones gasing up, tightening the bolts, and doing up the wheels

if i was a driver of a car, i would want my crew 100% as well, drinking comes after racing THE END

i think if your a driver or even a crew member and need to drink alcohol before you go racing you should hang the keys up put the crash helmet on and play stockcar heat its fools like this our sport does not need

Surely in this day and age,it's not unusual to have a zero tolerance for drugs/alcohol before and during the meeting..........makes for better times after the racing

A remit (I think from Stratford) was lost that sought to have
a 'ban on smoking in the pits' at all SNZ sanctioned tracks.
It seemed to the vast majority to be unworkable, impractical and not a priority in the 'risk department'.
Delegates were reminded of the angles grinders, welders, methanol flames belching from the super saloons.
I seem to recall getting sent to a smoking area in Gizzy before I saw the light and quit?
Should have got Lewis Dawsen to speak in support!

Gavs you have summed it up perfectly regardless of who you are or what your role is within a crew/team, everyone has some sort of responsibility and should anything happen to a driver because there crew is under the influence whether its something going wrong on the race track, or the driver being punished because of their crew is irreleveant

We have entered a professional age in which there is or certainly should be a zero tolerance to this kind of behaviour and i believe it is a requirement of sparc funding that such policies have to be in place. Im sure people on here would be the first to jump up and down if funding was cut due a few people round the country who cant wait till after a race meeting to have a drink
