Some of you may have been following my previous thread "and so it begins" later changed to "and so it begins again"...
So I changed chassis's over the offseason and spent alot of hours building the Read chassis up from bare bones.
Ive got a feeling Tony Oliver (38gm) took this pic...
I was unfortunate to not be ready for the first practice at Greenstone park Speedway...the car was not quite ready..
I did however make it to the 2nd practice..
The new surface on the track was sweet in my book and the car felt responsive, however after only a few laps in the first round of practice laps she conked out and refused to fire again.
The problem was with the module.
24th of october was the opening meeting for us, which also marked the clubs 25th reunion weekend.
Friday night at the Union Hotel saw a few bevvies and stories being downed.
Saturday was race day and the weather was beaming like the smile on my face after sorting the minor issues with the car.
1st race and i had drawn pole.....not the start I was hoping for.
And the green was waved and the first corner came, I was tossed around like a salad ending up facing the wrong way coming out of turn 2.
I noticed the car wasnt handling very normal and it turned out I was missing 2 springs from the rear. So the first race was sat out in the infield while I was wondering what had failed.
Both rear shocks had snapped in half......Got pushed back to the pits, the gloves went flying into the truck and steam was surely flying.....
Took a walk to cool off and try to locate lost top hats and springs, got both springs back and one top hat...
my crew for the day did a wicked job of cleaning the all white car, and even managed to piece back together one shock set up...when I asked the neighboring car if they had a spare top hat, soon the next shock was being pieced back onto the car and the 2nd heat was rolling out the gate without me..
2nd race.. only just made it to the track before they shut the gate.luckily i was starting off the back this race.
Gridded up and away we went...
There was a nice wee tangle in 1 and 2, and I managed to avoid it all..
I was furious at the car in this race and tried to go all out.
had no issues at all and I thoroughly enjoyed the race finishing 5th...best finish ever....only had the car to clean after this race.
3rd race.. I was set to start off the back again which I thought was good.
Similar start to the 2nd race. car was on song, and i was starting to get the corner entry alot smoother. However we played around with the set up between races and the car wasnt quite as throwable as the 2nd race (to my liking)..
In this race Brian Hahn had let Cleve Kokshoorn (hope I spelt it right Cleve) drive his car, and immediately I knew carnage would soon come..
3 laps to go and I drove myself a bit wide going into turn 1, I looked to the left and there was Cleve, i knew straight away I was going up the wall..
I did, up and down, I survived my first proper walling..
Straight back on the gas though, she developed a vibration at full noise, which turned out to be a bent rim just touching the caliper..
I finished the race but had no idea where i finished..
I drove it straight onto the trailer, and straight away the front left went flat.
Apparently I finished 4th in the 3rd race. And with alot of DNFs across the class I came home 6th or 7th on points for the day...
Since then i was forced to miss a meeting due to financial backing.
But the car is ready to go, even have my missing top hat back..
My next meeting will be in Cromwell (if they let us) for the xmas/new year break.
for the next 4 weeks ill be away at Waiorou Army Camp getting fit and tired...
Hope to see yas at Cromwell on the 30th dec and 1st Jan, then Greenstone Park on the 2nd.....yes itll be a all night drive from Cromwell afterwards
Enjoy your racing.......
