well where do I start.....
I had the car and gear all set to go a week early which is odd for me.
So we packed up the family with mother & sister in law in tow and headed off
from Greymouth at 8am on the 29th...It turns out our truck loves fuel but our wallet doesnt, had to fill up at Fox Glacier,Haast and Hawea!!!!
When we stopped for fuel in Haast, Eeamon Johnston the garage owner there said "your wheels about to fall off ya trailer mate", so I had a look and 2 studs were missing off one wheel,3 nuts were lose on the 2nd on the same side...
So we spent the next 1.5hr fixing it,most of that time was spent trying to find sme studs lying around, we think the hubs are International truck gear...
so on our way we finally reached Cromwell at 6pm!!!!
set up camp at the chalets camping ground.....
race day:
got to the track around 3.45pm to find double trouble boys already there aswell as Brad Hosking, so pulled in between them and unloaded, scruitineered(or passed over my log book), and waited for our races..
race one:
I was given grid 8,sweet...kerry and kelly planned to hold up the taylor boys and we all shot off passed them until coming out of turn 2, there was a car in the wall from the warm up laps, not sure how that happened and why we got the green but anyway we gridded up again and pretty much an identical start..
I ended up 3rd or so coming out of turn 2 but that didnt last long, the track seemed wet as and slippery and i wasnt getting any traction at all, was getting lapped consistently by everyone so i gave up racing and tried some blocking, but that also failed due to grip or the lack of...
race two:
starting off in 3rd for this one, getting into 1 and 2 i got into some push and shove, we were told it was hit to pass in this race, and still with limited grip and a vibration that came in at 4500rpm i was sure to get a hiding, so again, i tried some biffo, managed to tap a few, almost walled myself then wolliped someone quite good when i got a shove to the side.....it reminded me off driving on ice with tourists around.....
wasnt really enjoying the racing tonight, then i lost power steering in a hit and the oil pressure dropped off...
got into the pits and id lost a belt, apparently it was sitting up in turn 4 somewhere.
each race i managed to lose a bonnet pin from the same side, and the scoop mount has broken along with a body mount and a rear shock has spat it fufu valve...
also.......the rear caliper mount had twisted causing the rear to lock on..
so, the decision was made this morning that it wont be ready for the 1st...so we packed up the sideshow and headed back home, again holding up traffic, its not funny when your getting passed by campervans and tour coaches..
so we get home around 4pm this time, and get stuck into the car, off came the caliper bracket and the hammers, also found the piston had a hole in it so i welded it up well see if that works when we bleed the brakes in the morning, havent managed to replace the leaking shock though, also need to fix the bonnet...
what a trip...cost was high and in all honesty i probably wont make it next year due to that reason....
but thanks to central motor speedway for letting us come down to hit your wall
