If you ban it, people will smuggle it in. At least through Sales the club or venue are making money for the club. If Speedway bans the sale of alcohol, i think it would be a step backward in being professional. I dont drink during the week but like to have a few on my nights off which coincide with speedway.

Some people will still smuggle in alcohol anyway, whether the track sells it or not.
I've seen spectators arrive (generally in groups or 3 or more) partially intoxicated to start with. They smuggle their booze in. Its not hard to do. The PN entry police do a good job searching but when they see several 1 or 2 liter plastic coke bottles in a bag, how do they know if it contains liquor or not? (e.g. Jim Beam/Jack Daniels mixed with coke). There are other methods.
Getting wasted at a speedway meeting may not sound like the brightest idea to speedway puritans, but to drinkers who enjoy their speedway fix as well, it makes sense. But these punters are not stupid. They understand that to get high on alcohol requires volume which, given the high prices charged at venues, can be expensive.

I decided to vote for the leave it up to each track to decide policy. My reason is that after a year or two it would be clear to see which policy was working best. ie: the tracks who decided to let spectators drink at their venue might find that it doesn't work out as they would like or it may be a success. On the other hand Speedway could pair itself up with the authorities as a clean, no drinking sport that helps young drivers on the road to develop good car skills through racing...... ?

If baned totally if removes any arguement regarding the consumption of alcohol on site - becomes an excellent btoiol to manage drunks. To sell alcolhol at a speedway to make money might be 'professional' in the eyes of some, 'irresponsible' in the eyes of others. We must acknowledge the alcohol wrecks havoc in our community and incompatible with motoir vehicles. To provide family motorsport entertainment alcohol free may well see an increase in patronage (income). What would you rather have, 50 out of 1000 folk with a beer and half cut, or 1500 and all sober? Speedway finishes at around 10pm. Not too long to wait for a quiet (or noisy) beer or two after the racing.

In theory the promoter will get the $$$ from sellers so therefore a double edged sword, maybe more prizemoney to pay out,but more obnoxious (very few)idiots,it's ok at most meets, but at teams at Palmy you can't up and change seat if a dickhead is pissed beside you.
Do I need a beer at teams meet hell no,other meetings yep have grabbed one in between minor races.

If Speedway bans the sale of alcohol, i think it would be a step backward in being professional. How could it possibly be a step back in professionalism. It would create a far better image, no drunken louts making fools of themselves on tv etc (although sober people also do this) which would make the whole operation look alot MORE professional. If a club has to hinge part of its income on alcohol sales it has a serious problem. Its primary function is a speedway and thats its primamry source of income, extra income via alcohol does happen obviously but as ive said if a club needs to subsidise through alcohol its not to good.

Yeah but what about the responsible social drinker who likes to go and catch up with mates in the clubrooms before the meeting, and have a couple of quiet beers and a yarn? Not hurting any body or being irresponsible just enjoying the atmosphere and relaxing. Surely, there has to be a clear distinction between those getting pissed and being idiots, and the responsible person who knows limits and social boundaries.. Dont penalise all for the idiocy of some. Just come down harder on those who abuse it and make drunken dicks of themselves.. As a regular patron of Baypark I cant say I have seen any drunkenness and bad behaviour..

....promoted as a family event and therefore should be without drunks in the crowd. Most Kiwi family Christmas parties??? Some people should be locked in a cage before consuming alcohol because they have no self control past a certain point/amount of drinks. A 'good' drunk is inoffensive and unnoticed. Minority spoiling it for majority? Let people drink. Ban the ones that cause trouble. Alot of US tracks have a "Family stand" or area. No Smoking No Drinking No bad language etc.

Can't believe you'd ban alcohol at the teams? Then again I did lost a night of teams racing as a student when I queued early and tried passing some time with a quiet beer.

Hi there all well my 3yr old son and the family went down to p/north teams last year it was gr8 until some dick threw a empty can up in the air and hit my son in the head I crew for Trevor mason and I'm all 4 a drink but when things like that happen it sux my son had 3 stitches in the front of his head that then stuffed our weekend as in stead of crewing or watching the racing we where at p/north hospital so if they do ban drinks it is because off the few dicks in the crowd and then it stuffs it up 4 the ones that do behave..

(e.g. Jim Beam/Jack Daniels mixed with coke). There are other methods. they are supposed to do a sniff check of any bottle that has had the factory seals broken, but dont always do so, it seems to depend on the person doing the checking. for the big meetings, ie teams then they all do sniff checks as for having alcohol at the meeting, for the big meetings there needs to be a designated alcohol consumption zone, preferably where the racing can still be seen, but if not then access to a video feed should suffice. and for those who decide to get drunk in that designated area then leave, if they dont behave they can bee booted from the facility, and if police are in attendance, then possibly arrested for public intoxication or something
