Was wanting to know what happened to the modified driver of Mike McCall, was numbered 15A blue/grey bodied car. I think he ended up racing sprintcars at Western Springs. This is afew years ago now (maybe 8). Pallmall may know.
His car looked like the Wayne Davis 8R/3NZ in the Roger Bertram thread. Any pics of this car in his days of racing.
Im sure it was Mike?

I actually think the car he raced was a bertrum car (not the one in the other thread) but not sure which 1 possibly his last 1?

Ok i found this info on Salter website Grand Prix Sprint Car Title results 1993/94 Western Springs 1st Kerry Jones 2nd Tony McCall 3rd Mike Allen
So maybe its Tony McCall haha. Cheers for that kyle23, yea it looked like one of his cars.

It was Mike McCall, had the ex Bertram, Harris rocker arm car after Bertie retired. Was very fast, seemed to not be popular with some of the established drivers he was beating and certainly had issues with offialdom who it seemed were only looking at one car, 15A. Anyway, I think he did 1 and bit seasons in a Mod, then went (back?) to Western Springs in a Mini Sprint or a Sprintcar, maybe he had driven Mini Sprints previously, will have to check that. No idea if he is around racing now, and yes I do have photos somewhere amongst the hundreds of Mod photos that await scanning. Will post some soon.

He ran Modified Sprints at WS then came to Mods after buying RB's car and RB crewing for him, then went back to WS to run a sprintcar he is no longer racing as he and his wife are now into horses. The fact is the other drivers were getting peeved off with his driving antics, I do recall a driver telling Mike if he hit him again he would put him over the fence, Mike turn to RB and RB said he isn't joking.

I remember watching him end 4 end it down the front straight at waikaraka. does anybody know what happend to the car? was it scrapped? or is it still running?

The car was split up and sold off, i last heard the chassis had gone to a Meremere dirt track driver but i dont know if it ever raced again. Mel (112R) had the body bonnet and wing off it.

No idea what happened to either of the Harris rocker arm modifieds, 15A and 45A. The last time i saw the old 45a car it was being raced by Brian Mclaren (i think that was his name) he was from up north somewhere. He only raced it a few times and as far as i know he still has it sitting in his barn.

Brian had the 2nd of his Modifieds up at Taipa Queens Birthday 3 or so years ago & as far as I know he still has it over in Dargaville on his farm. His first car which was a converted Sprintcar is also still in Dargaville sitting as a bare chassis. Hope this is of help.

I would have loved to have seen Mike spend a bit more time in the seat of that sprintcar, he had great gear, a very good knowledge on set ups etc. A bit more time would have seen Mike go alot further. The rear end of that modified was changed (for the better) by Tim Clark, and later sold to a Meremere dirt track driver. Mike is now helping my daughter, his wife, with her showjumping career.
