Hi again,
Still in my boot for another week so nothing to report on my car, was really surprised to see the other boys adding to the board which is excellent , I knew shane knows how to post up a storm but hadleigh really amazed me with how he did such a big spread with pictures, I wasn’t even sure if he knew what macgors was let alone be a creative writer as well, then I thought he must be a quick learner? but that cant be rite as he has been tryin to learn to weld for 3 years now!!! And while on the topic of welding you may have just worked out the problem you have been using the helmet to protect your chest, not your eyes, no wonder you complain about not seeing the weld haha
Any way here is a bit of my racing background, I started racing I think around 92 -93 in a ford laser production saloon, my father had raced for years so it was inevitable I would one day, so after getting my license when I turned 15 it was on to the dirt for some high revving good times, which all went pear shaped on my 3rd meeting when the front end dug in and I went for a wild end for end ride turning the laser into a banana, when dad asked what I thought of that I said I think need more steel around me,
The laser was repaired but still looked like a banana raced for the rest of the season then sold and my first stockcar turned up
Not sure of the full history came from chch I bought it off Wayne Bennington 8gm and he got it from chch I think Louis Henderson may have owned it as 8c? I had it for a few years had a chev v6 in it until the cam shaft snapped and destroyed the motor and we repowered it with a buick, we sold the car to couple of guys keen for a skid Blaine Blyth and Chris Leighton unsure what happened to it from there but did see it on trademe recently.
Next was my 1st super stock bought new from Brent Larsen in the Hawkes Bay a very small and lite car that I had a lot of fun with had to replace several front bumpers thanks to all the drivers who didn know that I knew the wall and kept introducing me to it haha highlight with this car would have been getting 2nd at the battle of the stocks with Barry Podjursky as my partner (he did all winning I just concentrated on finishing) Unfortunatly a stint playing rugby in the uk went from 1 year to 2 the car was put on the market and sold to Willie Matson and the car headed north.
On return from the uk the bug to race again was itching and a cheap production was purchased in the way of a vc commodore only raced it for 1 year spent way to much money and to be honest the thrill just wasn’t there.
Somewhere about this time I was introduced to a website by a bloke at rugby training (funny guy, always listening to Norweigen death metal) Macgors wow, awesome and it has a classified section even better heaps of time for dreamin of new purchases then a car in Stratford came up withen my budget, an older car with a bit of history and a huge offset had a rover in it and was number 14s, I rang Jeff See and the deal was done, we raced the rover in blenheim a few times as they were the only track in the south island that were racing stockcars at that time every where else were mixed grade, highlight were a 6th in the south island and my first race of stockcar soccer that was crazy never seen a car get so mashed up had no idea what to do just hit the ball?? The rover is still on the coast still looks mean and low.
Finally my current car is a tri copy which again was advertised in these awesome classifieds a new rolling chassis needing to be finished which suits me set up for holden etc it all happened fast, the rover sold and the new car purchased from Blenheim, a few late nights and so on, the car is into its 3rd season now, and is great fun to drive.
Anyway theres some useless information for ya
Till next time
