I remember racing against Mike Laird came to the Bay all the time back in the day used to tow with an old 2.5 Triumph that if I remember correctly used to over heat the fuel pump a bit and conk out from time to time ahh them were the days HAHA

This is Wiseowl's second car, the ex-Geoff Fletcher Buick Skyhawk that became a Monza. I can testify that the flouro pink was so bright it was nearly impossible to look at when the sun shone....

Great photo's Pallmall and Tim. Tim's shot must be of about the old fella's third season with that car, by which time he was starting to have his share of success, although he's far too modest to admit that himself!
Although I wasn't there, I've heard the story of his first-ever victory so often it's like I was. There may even have been a video somewhere. It was at Stratford, and he was near the front when Geoff Thom barrel-rolled his Sierra. WiseOwl got the jump at the restart, and hung on for a lap or so to take his first chequered flag. Doubtless the story has been enhanced in the retelling over the years, but the man himself will correct me if my memory is not as good as it once was.
I did do a couple of trips to Hawkes Bay with Wiseowl during the season in which he raced the ex-Laird car, and seem to remember him racing against Mad Marty in that ugly Vauxhall he used to race.

Inventory 1 Most of what you say is correct...although my stories are FAR more entertaining.. I see a posting on here from Richard Alexander of HB... Jeez, that goes back a bit....I do remember the Sierra he raced !!! Hello Richard.....good to know you are still alive Cheers Wiseowl
