There was quite a bit of early debate regarding the NZ F2's as a new class or a further stepping stone for youngsters coming through the Sport.
Suddenly "BOOM" A major discussion on V6 Wingless Sprintcars hits the boards and offers the same stepping stone for around similar dollars and possibly a lot less work...........

while i see the merits of both classes if it had to be one or the other 60/40 to the f2,there are plenty of non contact classes for newbies or kids to have a go in,and really only 2 contact classes, streetstocks i belive hve seen there time in the sport(no offence to you guys)but if speedway wants to move forward? ? yes you can spend a few grand and get into stockcars, but we all know its gonna cost alot more in the long and possibly your health.i love stockcars and the massive hits the guys put in BUT i woudnt put my kid in one, also they have benifit of later model engines etc not limited to one make and model and not just for the kids, for the joe bloggs who has watched speedway and thought id like to give that a go, it could be a not so abrasive entry into the sport. and remember all you f2 bashers ,no one else in the world runs stockcars like we do(bunch of tough buggers we are ;D) if i hadnt started building my saloon id be building one(f2) peace scotty

intreresting comments,Steve(kwikchange) I feel that the two classes have totally different 'target markets'... and how do wingless sprintcars offer a stepping stone into a small tyred contact class(stockcars/superstocks)? As far as cost goes.......Gavin(English)would probably build you a new F2 for about half the cost of a wingless sprintcar......if you were able to do anything yourself,a homebuilt car would be competetive.

Thanks Vic. ;D Yep i think an F2 will cost about the same as a Mini stock, complete roller 6-7K$. I am lucky as i have had the top people in steering and suspension and car fabrication helping me, build something 5 times then change it to make it right. This costs money but somehow I've been lucky. 200 hours + 5 grand will allow me to build a cost effective car for around the $4k mark plus parts. Cheap for the kids whom want to carry on racing and the older person(gotta build for a lady racer in her 30's). BRING IT ON

well my complete roller for the V6 class cost me 6k so they much of a muchness.
Im going to that class as im more of an open wheel fan and the F2s to me are not the direction i see speedway going (my opinion) but they will be a good replacement for street stocks as i feel they don't have the image we need for our sport (the bogan image).

Things on the agenda to be done are The chassis will be going to raceworks to have the sissy bars fitted and a new set of panels then off to the blasters then powder coaters. This will all be done as finances and time allow. i will update things as it all progresses I will be contracting to Westport speedway once they have approval from SNZ to be part of the trial of this class. So far i have invested a little over $10000 into the car. The aim is to be on the track for the 1st of an in Cromwell Special thanks gos to Mike Gourlie (4c modified and sprintcar) for his help and advice with the car so far « Last Edit: Dec 4, 2010, 3:36pm by mikehansen »

Well I chose F2 because I know things go bad sometimes and when you roll a F2 up in a ball it may cost you $500 to get it sorted....but a Spriinter is another story. Ive had a mod and I know what hubs, stubs, axles, rearends etc cost. They run big boy gear at big boy prices. I know most have got their V6 made up of second hand parts but when you replace that, then you almost always have to buy new....some people dont have the time to fab their own bits either but some do. My 2 cents ;D
