Season 10/11 Race 1
Well I woke up to a labour weekend that looked amazing, I had originally planned to run Huntly’s practice but with such a mint night looking ahead and some friends already going down to Baypark, I gave Willie Kay a call on Saturday and asked if he needed another saloon and he would be glad to see us down there, so the plans changed and we were off to Baypark via Huntly to get a green sheet,
During the off season we got the car into CSR Fabrication in East Tamaki for a new front clip to be made up, the car had a pretty solid front bumper and we have cut that off and put a clip on loosing a heap of front weight in the process which will hopefully help the handling a bit, Streety did an amazing job and getting everything new powder coated at Spraywell Industry’s in East Tamaki made it look awesome. Other than that, the car was as we had run last year so we were ready to go.
We drew grid 16 which put us near the back, which suited me as we had not practiced this season so not being in the thick of things was ideal, we were first race up and the track was still quite heavy, after a good number of packing laps we were off, Michelle Wiemer got passes us early, the track was quite tricky but we found a line that worked and made some passes on the 17 and the 78 cars, I was trying to catch Michelle near the end and making a little bit of progress but as we crossed the finish line there was a huge bang, and a fair bit of noise as the drive shaft let go.
We do not carry a spare so it was night over for us, unfortunately a bolt had come out in the 5th link causing the damage, we had missed something in the precheck so a bit of work this week to get the car ready for Huntly’s opener on Saturday, and then we will try to back up at Kihikihi on Sunday, its been around 23 ish years since I have been to a Kihikihi fireworks meeting, so I look forward to going there.
A huge thanks goes to Chris Street at CSR Fabrication for fitting us in, and to Chris Brown for coming down with me to Baypark for the night,
Hope everyone season starts off well,
See you at the races
