Was anyone else sitting around turn 2 yesterday? Did they have to listen to the couple of yobos who decided it was a good idea to get clearly very drunk and start swearing at god for the rain, throwing food at people and calling people c***s and useless f*****s. And Im sure someone asked if they would mind stopping only to have them start on him. At one point i remember hearing one of them call a young boy a smelly little c**t. Why is it some people NEED alcohol at speedway and then to top it off they cant handle it. Ive got my rain out and brought my finals ticket yesterday, turn 2 is where i always sit but if i have to put up with that again.

I was talking with people about this lastnight where we were sitting. Is there no alcohol policy for Paradise Valley? There were guys walking in with chillybins full of alcohol and even guys walking round with boxes of Woodstock etc We were very suprised at how few security staff there were over on the terraces and with alcohol flowing this freely there is going to be incidents. Why do we have to pay good $ to watch our beloved sport only to be abuse or have some dropkicks ruin things. This event provides enough excitment that you shouldnt have to drink and leave a sour taste in other peoples mouths.

I dont mind a drink or 2 today wet the throat but when they come in with a full box they clrealy have 1 intention. Admitedly it got much much worse with the rain but as you say security was a no show. Also whats the blue tarp policy? I could see taps when i walked in the pit gates so surley staff could see them too, kind of sucks when you turn up 4 hours early and still cant get your seat because someone comes along with a big blue tarp and "takes" a large section. The event is going to be great but if those few little niggles were fixed it could be a really great family event, after all thats what its meant to be for us spectators isnt it?

its people like this that don't help our sport at all when there are potential sponsors in the crowd. these people are not there for the racin when they get that drunk. makes it hard for the people that drink in moderation and are there for the racin. only takes a few bad eggs to ruin it for the rest. i hate it when ya get clowns like that next to ya just ruins the whole atmosphere of the meeting.

A fair few tarps from what i saw were families off cars racing, don't really see whats wrong with that ;D If they want to reserve seating then put their seats in place as my and my partner did.Id like to think the speedway community are good in that you can leave your bags etc and have a wander around the pits, and if your not comfortable with that a nearby spectator will watch your bags as we did for a number of people who asked us. I hate being a grinch to such an awesome event but its just those 2 things, 1 which i thought was a rule and 2 which is just sheer common courtesy that can ruin it for everyone around.

i dont see a big issue with tarps so long as they are not taking up more room than needed , sometimes you set one out because others say they will be there to sit with you but may not show for one reason or another, if that the case common courtesy would tell you to shrink your area a bit, also dont see an issue in leaving a tarp in place for two nights if you are attending both but make sure you turn up at a reasonable time and not half an hour before start time

i thought the vezoolas or mini trumpets were bloody anoying, thats what ruined the soccer world cup and hope hope it doesnt ruin the speedway for me,i cant stand them. As for alcohol i think it has a place but i agree some ruin it for people who just enjoy a quiet one and for families.

The idiot yelling the c... and f... words should have been noticed by security. I was sitting 4 along from him, he was drunk, abusive, threw food down the terraces (pizza crusts) and was throwing his empty bottles into the bin one tier down. At an event like this I would have expected security to be far more visible. Sure we could have moved seats but we had good seats and did not want to give them up.
If I had had children with me I do not know what I would have done.
Was there security doing any sort of patrol.

I did see a couple of security guards walking up and down (briefly) the steps down the back straight. One did spend quite a bit of time chatting to a mate though. Security is an issue for us. We don't attend the Teams Champs anymore because of drunken louts, and would hate to miss out on the NZ Superstock Champs after 25 years of attending because of a minority of people who take their drinking too far!

They were sitting in front of us as well and I mentioned to a security guard but he didnt seem fazed. All well and good to be having a good time and a few drinks but those guys were rolling drunk by 5pm, one would presume they may have been driving as well!! Hopefully security a bit more vigilant tomorrow night

Must be getting grumpy in my old age but a couple of things that really annoyed me were the amount of alcohol that some of the young ones were bringing in...my son and I arrived just before 4 to get a good seat,we found a good spot in the middle of turn3-4 and set up ours and a friends seats up...about 6 feet away there was a couple of seats and a blanket on the wooden seat,3 people turned up and sat there about 5:00 then at 6:00 another 8 of there friends turned up,sat down blocking off the whole width of the terrance, each with a box of beer or a box of woodstock with them, one of them even skiting and showing his mates his 26oz bottle of Jim Beam and telling everyone within hearing distance on how drunk he was going to get..what was the point of going if all you are going to do is see how drunk you can get...dont get me wrong,I like a beer and a bourbon myself but there is a time and a place, getting rolling drunk at the speedway is not the time or place. I had a couple of polite conversations with a couple of them when they tried moving my mates blanket while they were in the pits having a look. One of them was polite and apologetic, the other one was just a mouthy clown and with his language and my 8 yr old son there dosnt know how close he was getting to a wake up call..when my mates arrived back from the pits we ended up moving as we had paid good money to watch something we enjoy and didnt want it ruined but a bunch of drunk idiots ( and before I said or did something to one of them that they wernt going to like,my son shouldnt have to put up with thier crap. My second gripe is the amount of inconsiderate idiots that have to block of the whole width of a terrace..one of the great things I love about Rotorua is the big wide terraces,if you need to get to food or toilets it is easy to get in and out without upsetting everyone or doing a wierd dance to get out...besides the clowns next to me, there was a group 1 row above me sitting about 6 feet in from the start of the terrace in turn 4 who had the whole width of the terrace blocked off with thier chairs at the back, kids chairs at the front and bags and chilly bins in the middle, you couldnt get past even if you wanted too. There was a heap of empty space next to them but to get there you had to walk right to the other end or jump up or down from the next terrace...if you are going to block of the width of a terrace sit in the middle of the turn. They probably sat there so it was close to the toilets for thier kids etc, shame they couldnt think about other people sitting past them that may have wanted to take thier kids to the toilets but because of them would have to walk right to the other end to do it...the terraces are wide enough that there is no need to block the whole thing off...be nice if these greedy, inconsiderate idiots thought of others for once...guess Santa didnt bring them brains for xmas

There will come a day when speedway will either limit or ban alcohol. Does the club have any responsiblity in that if someone enters the venue gets drunk and drives and has an accident, i realise a private residence would be different but as its a establishment theyve paid to enter. And as kermit says, the amount of people that walk in with boxes and then you seen them walking out without said boxes and see them driving. What is the mentality of people. Admitedly im biased as i gave up drinking 3 years ago so i can have a good time without it, but its meant to be a family enviroment and the minority are ruining it for the families.

Try having clowny kids behind you with airhorns. Atleast 6 or 7 of them. Just constant. Even before the meeting at 3pm!

the alcohol thing is bad form..
its always going to be there, wether its legitimate or not. the rules the security at the gate can use are draconian and cant work effectively to stop people. the bag/chilly bin search is about the limit they can use.though if there are terms on the ticket restricting alcohol, its a right of refusal to entry.
that of course requires 2 things....
1)that the security staff can identify alcoholic drinks on sight. 2)that they actually care enough to do the job they are paid to do
number 2 is the real problem. the people who care, are not doing the job.and why? because they are paid peanuts
all it takes for a club to get wise is for the clubrooms to loose a liqour license, due to breaches on the premises. they would all be more concerned with booze about the place...and unless you complain to the district licensing agency directly and to some extent with the police(potting people for drunk and dissorderly, which gets back to the DLA, because they are involved in the reissue process), it wont make any difference.
If YOU dont like it, DO SOMETHING to fix it. bleating on here alone is not enough.it just means we all know there is a problem(we turn up, we know). but that doesnt mean the DLA or police do.
how would bruce robertson feel if he didnt get his cut from the booze stand at teams champs???if the clubs actually paid the money to patrol the crowds properly it wouldnt get out of hand the same way.
as for hogging space, thats just the way society is going....

I have been involved with speedway for about 35 odd years, from watching to racing and crewing,I'm like other people i like a beer, but you attend meetings to enjoy the action on the track, not having to put up with fu.kits who seem the need to get pissed to watch speedway What are these pi.swits going to do next, if they dont like a certain driver,or car, throw a full can at them on the track. My home track has a non alcohol policy for years and that has worked fine

Just wanted to say that Eastern states has a no alcohol policy and has paid uniformed security (armorguard) doing bag searches during entry and walking around the crown during the meeting confiscating any alcohol seen.
Good stuff and bodes well for the nz stocks!!!!

Being such a large meeting such as this , controlling the crowd is a mission on its own. Security have a pretty tough job . From what i have seen of the Security at Paradise Valley , they do an exceptional job . These guys are a no nonsence group of people and will sort any issues out if it is brought to their attention. If anyone annoys you dont take the cr.p . Go and grab your nearest Security Officer . People can enjoy themselves and have a cold one or two . But if they are out of limits , im sure they will be shown the gate . Maybe there will be a clampdown on the booze taken in tonight and tomorrow.

A nationwide no alcohol policy is one of my long-term pet projects. I guess it's a bit like Barry Brown and his national numbering system!
Families and alcohol don't mix, it's as simple as that.
With the rubbish that goes on at Cricket, Rugby and Rugby League games I believe there is a gap in the market for alcohol free sports entertainment. Speedway could and should be positioned to take advantage of that but we aren't.
Is it any wonder the average father still thinks of speedway as a bogan passtime?
