I was thinking the same thing. With all other teams pretty much confirmed and no word at all on a 12th team or who will be in it im picking we could be 11 teams with same format as last year?? where are they confirmed?? not on the Palmy website so amount is not confirmed yet ..there is work going on behind the scenes Okay....when it happens I guess we will know. Oh, did I say "when"? I meant "if"

There are 11 teams, end of story; same line-up as last year but with the Auckland Allstars out and the popular Wanganui Warriors making a welcome return.

Does that mean that the seeded teams cannot be drawn to race one another on the first night?

Does that mean that the seeded teams cannot be drawn to race one another on the first night? That is correct (exactly the same as in 2010) - but the Panthers of 2011, of course, can and probably will draw one of those 4 teams on the first night. With each team racing twice, 11 teams races in total and the seeded teams not meeting each other, 8 of those races will contain a seeded team. Only 3 will not (races 3, 8 and 11), so the Panthers odds of drawing the one number that would avoid seeded teams in BOTH of their races is 1 in 7. And considering a team name will be drawn randomly first, then a number drawn randomly assigning said team to a pre-fixed place in the draw, the odds of probability are realistically something like 1 in 49........

More like...er..."maybe". Which is like "there 'will' be 12 teams this year"...which probably should read "there 'may' be 12 teams this year"....
