I Think at the current prices it is the best value entertainment anywhere on the planet.
I have been heading to palmy for a few years now and when ever someone asks why do I keep going back, the only way I can describe it is to say It,s like watching modern day gladiators at their best. ( But ones that smell awesome and sound like thunder on steroids )
I think this event is way under valued I would pay $100 per night for this event no drama! It beats a game of rugby or cricket (and I have played and watched both) or any other sporting event I can think of.
If they were to increase pricing what I would like to see is ALL the extra revenue to go straight back to the drivers to invest in their equipment to grow and raise the profile of the sport. $20 X 17000 spectators per night $340,000 x2 nights $680,000 going straight in the drivers and teams pockets. Divide that by the number of cars and that's about $11300 per car. depending on how ya work out the split. A winning team car could stand to earn $25k+ and a losing car $5k
Id get outa bed for that!
I'm all for it! Throw these sort of figures around and we wont be worrying about weather we can field twelve teams or not!

There's a fair bit of filler in the programme still (car of the week, 30min of parade laps, Wanganui versus Rotorua ... oops :-) ) That comment could come back to haunt you Pete ;D ;D ;D Was the race of the meeting several years ago I think Pete's still a bit sore about the mighty Warriors eliminating his boys in fantastic fashion, perhaps the same meeting as the Rebels showdown. Im not sure about the cost for tickets though.Ive canned the trip this year because of the increase in ticket prices, accomodation and travel from Auckland. Next year I'll be there....but only if it's under $50 bucks...Ill start saving now.

I struggled this year with buying the tickets as I have to scrimp and save and we have been coming for a number of years now. Yes we enjoy it but please remember those of us on 1 wage that isn't that a fantastic amount to begin with. Also like most others I then have the accommodation and petrol costs etc. I would think getting bums on seats would be a better option than pricing out of the average Joe bloggs price range. Would the drivers and teams prefer to race to a packed out stadium with the noise and atmosphere or the other alternative. Just a thought.

probably WAY too much.... $2380.00 US.... And I got off light, Mum and dear Ol Dad are pickin upthe tab for a room and Tickets. Totally worth the expense, when combine with other family activities. Not sure I would make a yearly habit of it though.

I agree with joshnz, the cheapest part is the entry fee! We've spent the thick end of $16,000 to get here from the UK. So just glad to be here! Our biggest worry is a rain out as we're only here for a week. If its rained out.......? The drop swing at Gravity Canyon! lol. (DON'T BE RAINED OFF!!)
