BombsAway welcomes all drivers, crew, fans & officials to our fine City and sincerely hopes everyone has heaps of fun and that this 2011 ENZED Superstock Teams Champs turns out to be one of the best ever.
Go The Kings - Panthers Forever
Sort of just like at the Olympics the Eternal Flame has been set alight, to mark the first dawn of day one. Qualifying Friday.
In lighting this beacon Go Slideways wishes everyone in the Palmy speedway family a safe and totally awesome experience this weekend.
Yee Har - Bring It On!
I know that a few people have had the odd challenge in getting here, and I know of a few people who have displayed some real heart - so before I conclude I'd like to make special mention of just a few of genuine good Kiwi people that I know of, there's hundreds more out there that I don't:
*Everyone knows the troubles that have befallen our great Panthers Captain, despite their own cross to bear Scott and Vicky Miers family are once again opening their home to England.
Good on you Scott & Vicky & family.
* Rick Taylor from the Kihikihi Kings had major engine issues and was pretty much buggered about a month ago. BombsAway offered to provide Rick with a seriously top quality SVO race engine to get him here. At the end of the day Rick was humbled and honoured that such a generous offer had been made to him, and the Kings, but for other reasons it didn't eventuate.
Rick and the Team are grateful for the support and appreciate the gesture.
Good on you BombsAway
* This week my mate in Kihikihi was having the odd moment getting his car and other stuff sorted. I wasn't stressed because I had already accepted that it wouldn't be an easy ask to leave my place with a motor and a tank body last Friday, and to return as a finely honed team of destruction this Friday.
- Daniel Gubb's offers of help have been outstanding, to the point of him willing to drive through the night, on the blind, to see if he could put it right.
- Same for Conner Garrett Superstock 66k, awesome, but you'll still be in the tent mate. Brad and Stacy have got the bed.
- Brendon Locke said yesterday morning through Daniel to get the Kings cars on the trailer and down to Palmy and he'd just take care of any problems - awesome CSL
Awesome heart from Kevin Roberts to offer to put his car and his body and $ on the line for a bunch of people he hardly knows from Kihkihi.
Good on ya Kevin.
My mate went to the rained out NZ Saloon Car Champs in Wellington recently.
There he met these 3 brothers (the Dirt Brothers) who race Saloon 55T and he instantly liked them. They travelled all the way up the South Island from places named Cromwell, Timaru and Oamaru and across the stormy seas to get there, only to be told by a grumpy scrutineer "Na, ya can't race. Ya body's not the right sort. That's it, go home."
Well they didn't go home, they only had next to no money but they looked on Trade Me and bought a Selica for $400, dragged it back to the pits and cut it up. By the time it was welded onto thier Saloon chassis they were ready to pass scrutinering and go racing. They did a couple of races and broke a shock, no budget or sponsor meant they had to take one off thier tow wagon to continue. yee har.
Unfortunately for them after just a few races it started raining and didn't stop for 4 days, furthermore the $400 they spent on the body to satisfy the fashion police at scutineering was meant to be thier accomodation budget, darn.
So they got very wet and all 3 of them slept in the pits in thier little tow truck for 4 days. They remained happy and polite.
My mate liked thier style.
The Dirt Brothers have never been to ENZED Teams Champs before and think that a track like Palmy with bigs screens etc. must be on another planet.
I liked thier style too so they're staying at my place this weekend. I get to meet them a bit after lunch time I think.
Good on ya Dirt Brothers
Welcome to all heads from Christchurch, you know who you are.
Good on ya Georgia, Lisa & James.
Nicola is awesome too, what'll you see the shirts she made.
.......these are just a few examples of why I still happy to be a Kiwi, and proud to be from Palmy.
Welcome, Welcome, Welcome
