Manawatu Standard's Tony Coffin made it the lead story, along with two sidebars and three photos, on the back page of Monday's edition. Comprehensive coverage!

He has been a class act for years now. Penn is buy far the fastest in the Panther,s and is good at picking the gaps. He will leave a big hole in the team. but its good timing as the mighty Panther,s can blood 1 new driver in at a time. ( Hemi retire next year ?)

Rees must have gone pretty close to outstripping Penn for speed on the first night - he had his car absolutely flying on Friday.

well, I'm stoked to say that I was 'that nerd' (thanks to lucking-out big time on the BEST reserve seats) at the fence when the 9p pulled up. shanes game face was still on as he got out & I only need utter the words "well done shane" when that trademark grin & the thumbs-up crossed fist-pump was first celebrated... made my weekend!

Its Hemi for three reason,s 1. He said in our local paper that because Shane has pulled the plug then he will be back next year. 2. what he said on sport box. 3. He has been the weakest link, (only my opinion) in the Panthers for year,s. he is still fast, but alas hits like a ..........
He,s a real nice guy and has always been there for the P, but lets be honest if the final was against Nelson then we all know who was sitting out.

Dont get me wrong Rees is fast, but if you have seen the other nights during the year , you would see that Shane has the bullet flying. But i would rather have Shane in my mirror than Rees.

Disagree to an extent,if teams racing hate both in mirrors lol,but normal meeting Rees for sure, you never know if he'll attack or not,Penn won't attack, just fly past.
Can't really see Penn getting no1,a lot of guys who move to Palmy from original area for the better racing seem to be typecast as being in nomans land,i.e Penn palmy may help but may give help to a "local"rather than import, and the bay guys feel same he's a palmy guy, maybe exception is Joblin lately, but who knows, having the fastest machine doesn't make it your title.
And with as in recent times the calibre of palmy cars qualifying, can't blame each of them wanting a crack at no1,hense come heat3 for the palmy imports they get little help from palmy cars out of running, and their original track(if any cars in finals).

That may be right, but the year Shane went to Palmy was after the Auckland NZ Champs when Darcy outsmarted him BUT none of his HB clubmates even attempted to try and slow Darcy down. Shane showed his anger by giving Nigel Cooper a smack off the end after the race and then what do you know, next season he has changed tracks. The politics in superstocks must be hard to contend with.
