I have been reading the thread regarding alcohol and am growing more and more annoyed, not at the drinkers, but at the families complaining about the drinkers!! i myself am a non drinker so do not take sides with those that drink. i have attended teams for 17 years now and have never had a major incident involving a drunk, so am left scratching my head to where some of you sit to be continually harassed by drunks??? i have had drinkers around me and some even intoxicated.....but all have been nothing more than a giggle, never a hassle. on the other hand and this is the reason i started a new thread as i didn't want this point missed in a heap of posts regarding drunks. When we attend places like Huntly, Kihikihi, Rotorua etc etc we are more annoyed by families than any drinker!! i have personally had a gut full of parents that take advantage of the family pass and bring as many kids as they can and as soon as they are in the gate take no responsibility for what their kids do. We have been hit by kids running past, had our gear stood all over, kids standing in front of us blocking view, running up and down annoying all around us......and where are the parents? watching racing at some other part of the track.......why should we as paying members of the public put up with this carry on, basically using the speedway as a baby sitting service while they take in a night of speedway. now before i get toasted by families on here i agree it is only some families and in turn only some drunks that cause issues!! so before everyone gets on their high horse there is fault on both sides of this fence..............regardless to whether they drink, have families, or come on their own....we just have some very inconsiderate a..holes that attend speedway and think a meeting is all about them and their needs...........so stop blaming any one category and take long look at ones self before attacking anyone else!!! ;D

I couldnt agree more, speedway isnt a baby sitting method. I will no doubt cop some flak or abuse for this but what kind of parent lets their young children wander around strangers anyway? I dont got o speedway as much anymore for 2 reasons. 1 being that i cant afford it as often and 2 my son is at the age where he cant sit still and wants to run around, im a sensible parent and know that 1 my son SHOULDNT be running around at speedway, 2 other people shouldnt have to look out for or around him and 3 speedway is a dangerous place, wheels and debris to make it through or over the fence. What if little johnny or jane was hit at the other end of the track? wheres mum and dad? who do they call for? take some responsiblilty and either get a baby sitter of stay home.Harsh but thats the gist of it.

Some good points there......maybe if people are calling for security to remove drunks that are causing issues and annoying spectators maybe the same should apply for families........another words if your kids are to be found running around unattended that family should be removed as well? ? to me fair is fair...... ;D it;s all about consideration for others that is at the botom of both these threads is it not??

i agree with that i dont like kids running around ether 28 years of going to teams champs and a 9 year old going since he was 5 months old he doesnt run around . but for him to go to the toilet and get abused from a growin up that is drunk and pushed for what he is wearing thats not on i dont mind drunk people u can have a laugh with them but its the ones that abuse people but to abuse a kid is not right . i dont think alcohol should be banned but the ones that get to carried away and start to abuse kids should be kicked out .

The biggest problem that I see is total lack of respect to other people who want to enjoy themselves and have to put up with all the crap of drunks and loose kids running around ,
Both my kids were brought up on speedway and we can say they were never allowed to run around or get drunk

the one thing that bugs me most about the kids that are running around is there disrespect for the facility where are there parents when these little tackers are jumping on the fences?

Nice post, We've been racing for a long time and neither bother me that much. If anything the drunks have been pretty dam funny. The drunks sometimes add to the entertainment just as the kids do. Some people will find something to complain about no matter what.

At World 240's I sat on the terraces next to 3 kids and their mum, and the kids fun was trying to trip people up who were trying to step over their blanket that was spread all the way across (that was impossible to do with the amount of ground they had staked out). When my Partner came along I told them what the consequences would be if they tried to trip up anyone that I knew (plus I gave them the dreaded "evil eye"!)

this will probably sound mean and slightly disrespectful.....
kids are like dogs, you don't let them run free in public, and you need to be prepared to clean up after them.
we take our 5 year old to speedway most of the time, he doesn't leave the seat without an adult, even for lolly scrambles(though the adults around him hand him a big stash of whatever comes close)
Id like to think there was a middle ground somewhere. where the well behaved can stay. and the unsupervised kids can get picked on by the rowdy/abusive drunks, down the road somewhere else, and leave the speedway for the respectful spectators.
speedway doesn't need to be "dry" if people have respect, for themselves and others. kids at speedway can be just as bad as drunks in some respects. if your not capable of looking after/controlling the kids, leave them at home with a sitter, or stay home with them(they will probably turn out better for having spent the time with an adult who pays them some attention).
I think your making a fair point supastocknut, parents shouldnt be saying its the drunks making the sport unpleasant, if they are a problem themselves.

What about the clay flying over the fence when you sit on corners!! That distracts my viewing sometimes. I think they should remove the clay.

far out, most of you fellas must of had boring life's as kids. Of course kids are gona run around, you have Lolly scrambles for them so they will run and then run even more when fueled up on candy. Parents can't physically stop there kids from running now or else they will be breaking the law won't they?

some cars also smoke, and i cant stand breathing in all that carbon monoxide and the dust gets in my eyes and up my nose.I think we should make all the cars electric and asphalt the tracks

The real problem at speedway isnt either the Drunks or the kids its the Drunk Kids- you dont want to mess with this bunch. The ones that run around spilling their drinks on everyone, standing in front of you while sculling a bourbon
