It’s been a while since I wrote on of these,
I have raced a few times this season but with work commitments I have not been able to make any major titles,
Ill do a report on the last couple of meetings,
Waikaraka Park,
We made our first trip to Waikaraka Park this season, with the streetstock 290’s and a caravan derby on; there was a good crowd in,
Race 1 off grid 8 from memory, we made a good start and made a couple of places early, loosing one later on, I felt very good in the car and we had made some improvements with side bite, which we had been struggling all season with, I was happy with the car,
With out much change and off grid 2 for the next race, we got the jump on the start and had not much issues leading the whole way to the flag, the 74a car was closing very fast in the end and we had caught the lappers which made it close at the finish, it was awesome to get a win away from our home track
Race 3 and we were off grid 12, late in the first lap there was an almost pile up and we stalled the car in the attempt to miss the carnage, with everyone missing each other there was no yellow and by the time we got the car going, we were well last, so I put my head down and drove as fast as I could, we caught some of the back markers but late in the race over cooked it in turn 2 and turned it around again, finishing near the back in the end,
Waikato Champs, Feb 26th
We were at home again for the Waikato Saloon Champs, with 19 cars and a front middle back 3-race format we were hoping for a good result,
Race 1 off grid 6, missed the jump a little and 48a jumped up high and started coming though, I was trying to get around a couple of cars but ended up loosing a couple of places to 18m and 46m, it was a good track but not really 2 full lines, some cars made places though and we were not able to make any, result 7th
Race 2 off grid 16, we made some places early and were running good, then a big pile up in turns 3 and 4 which I spun the car to avoid, we got a good hit in the lh rear and bent a rim, managed to stay on the track though and scored another 7th,
Race 3 and were about 4th or 5th on points, with a grid 10 start I thought we had a chance at a top 5 placing overall, unfortunately after getting a place early I got passed by a few cars incl both daltons cars and a couple of others, it thought the track would slick off fast and tried to just run the bottom, but there was grip up the top and some of the guys made me look average,
I ended up 7th, first huntly car, but a little disappointed with the last race but this is the best I have done in a Waikato Champs in the 4 years I have raced them,
