Ive notice the Welly Club's Vice President always has plenty to say on this Board He does however seem very inactive on this part of the Board.. It would be interesting to hear his views on the subject Sorry Sav, I read the first couple and thought it was just the usual bashing thread, like the one about the website, so I'm actively trying not to argue with people lately, no point so I just ignore the threads. So, as a few others have pointed out (and this isn't ducking responsibility - but this is a personal response, not a Club one). - The Club no longer employ the security, this is done by SPW the promoters, so while we can, and will, take any concerns of the Club to them, we can't actually change the security arrangements. (And I'm sure they see the threads on here too). - There is a secure car parking area next to the clubrooms, this is for Club members use and is a benefit of being a Club member. My understanding is members of the public can also park there, and I think it was a charge of $5 - but I would have to check with SPW that is still the case now the facility is run under their auspices. - Otherwise parking at Te Marua is free, so from that point of view I guess there is no specific security offered in the main car park, which is much the same as any public car park anywhere. I know people complain of the cost of speedway, but I guess if the promoters chose to charge for parking they would add a further security patrol - but then the cost also goes up for everyone... - Like some others, I haven't heard of any mayor problems in the past, certainly no worse than I have heard about Palmy - or the infamous "Clubrooms" there. - We did have some problems at a meeting recently with items being stolen in the pits, so every meeting since there has been a specific "lock your wallets in your tow cars" message at all drivers briefings, as it was things like that being stolen (opportunist thieves) more so than tool boxes and alloy jacks. - Unfortunately like pretty much anywhere in the country, we have a criminal element around - which has only been further highlighted by the looting in Christchurch, what can you say, I wish it wasn't so, but unfortunately that is a sign of the society we now live in... Crims seem to prosper... - And as for losing $2000 out of one car - who would leave that much gear on display - or not make an insurance claim, or not get a VERY loud car alarm, or leave a Rotweiler sleeping on the back seat? - I think I would be just as concerned parking my car pretty much anywhere after dark these days, unfortunately we can't expect a speedway car park to be anymore immune to theft than any other. Sorry Sav, what else would you like me to add?? And as I said, this is a personal response, not a response on behalf of WSS or SPW - so go ahead and shoot me for it! Cheers Chris Hadley

hey guys thanks for your info into these break ins i can assure you we are looking into it .Unfortunately there are rrrsoles out there that prey on the unwary so you to need to make sure your stuff is kept in a secure place . put your GPS gear away before you get to the car park .don't forget to wipe the circles off the windscreen (as this is a dead giveaway that you have a radar detector or GPS in your car somewhere ) don't leave objects of value on the floor or seats put them in the boot if you don't want to carry them around all night (or leave the stuff your not going to use at speedway at home Mad Marty who's car was broken into in the members car park as its the first Ive heard of it Cheers Martin Halcrow WSS President

"Just outside the entrance to the Clubrooms" is INSIDE the pits though??? You have to go through the pit gate and turn left to get to the Clubrooms entrance. Come on Superstock, I think you need to tell us who you are and why you were parked there - its competitors only inside the pits - and we weren't running any Superstocks either night!

Superstock get over yourself. The security is the best it has ever been. Were the old guys letting you in cheap?? It is a big wide open area and security do patrol it throughout the night but if they really want to get in they will do it!
Recently (Teams Champs) we ejected a number of drunks who subsequenltly walked up the top road and broke in to cars up there in broad daylight!! What do you do?
Just can't see why you are attacking Wgtn with such vigour. It is an extremely unfortunate thing that happens everywhere - not just in Wgtn. As HRC states I can assure you it is being seriously looked at by both SPW and the security company but given the wide open spaces there is a limit to what can be done..
it is nutse to have this happen and my car was parked within metres of yours but your post is over the wire rope!

hey superstock you say your not bagging TeMarua /wellington speedway (look above ) remember we are not responsible for the rrrrsoles that come to the track to rob the competitors or the public but we are proactive in getting this sorted out Ive given you a option of parking in the Members Car park (yes it will cost you 5 bucks) hopefully your car will be safer there but its up to you and others like i said before to put your gear out of sight and maybe sit up in the big blue grandstand and keep an eye out for the rrrsoles see ya Saturday night cheers Martin Halcrow President WSS/Super Saloon 24W

friend was broken into at waikaraka park, very very very badly. smashed window, alarm siren wires cut, they cut through the steering wheel with a hacksaw to remove steering lock, everything stolen. then use a slide hammer to smash the entire egnition to pieces, went home on a tow truck that night.. security not the greatest id have to say?, as the guy at the gate didnt know i was a driver and just let me and my partner through. (your all good bro just go in) i shouted two crew members in so it all worked out even didnt want to nuts on my club.... but how many of his friends and other kewl look dudes like myself were let in that night?

There seems to a bit of a cop-out culture here. The area is not to big for security to patrol look up the term capable guardian. Anyone with any decent security experience will have one officer doing regular patrols at irregular intervals. And officers smoking and talking smack are not a good look if you want to portray a competent organisation. Anyone can be a capable guardian.
Any half decent security outfit would know this basic stuff, if in doubt ask about CPTED as well if they haven't heard of that ditch them.

re car break ins: 4w super saloon we watched those guys get kicked out and then they drove up to the top car park & did donuts up there, we told security gaurds they were up there & what they were doing but they must of done nothing about it. We watched all this from the top of the grandstand.
