Here is a chance to try out the "One driver, One vote" concept that SNZ should use for setting rules at the AGM!
To make it fair - only vote if you ACTUALLY CONTRACT A SALOON! (No way of checking that though)...

when i was a driver i had a mirror in the car and it was good but one day we took it out don't no why now but i keep looking at it in the 1st race and it wasn't there ,so in the 2nd race i won the race cos i was looking at who was in front not behind me and i never put it back in after that . so its up to you if you do run with a mirrors and if you do ,should try it for a night with out it to see how you go good luck with this .

Their are competitors who will use the mirror to block another competitor. If you choose your line then you stay where you are and not change when it suits. Mod drivers don't have mirrors.

The fastest cars on the track are sprint cars they don't have them . If you have got time to do your hair ,put on ya lippy check ya eye make up ,look behind and look in front all the same time you're not going fast enough , Concentrate on where you are going not where you have been . Most times you crash and cause a caution you aren't mobile anymore anyway .I was told by a very successful driver to throw my mirror away and concentrate up ahead , if everyone looked further ahead they would see what is happening in front without you trying to figure out what is happening behind , I agree you can't be accused of blocking with ya mirrors if you haven't got one . I vote no to mirrors ,I believe we had drivers that spent the whole time protecting their position instead of trying to improve it . I only scare myself looking in them anyway . ;D Cheers 77k

I think folk are throwing out the baby with the bath water, and are putting themselves and others at needless risk and expense in the process. Greater cost = fewer competitors.
Firstly, there are rules about 'blocking' and there's no argument that many used their mirrors to protect their position. The removal of mirrors has made it more difficult to block, but far from impossible. Instead of focusing on mirrors, try encouraging the ref to enforce the race rules. No blocking, boring down, hold your line, etc.
Second, to reduce the illegal use of a mirror, to retain the use of a mirror to enable a safe exit from the track during a race, when reversing, agree to the use of a 'spy mirror' strategically placed to limit rear view to the pole line only, rather than the 'stock car type'.

Strange this has come back up, this is an old poll set up before the last remits meeting, so is a bit immaterial until the next remits opportunity!
However, I agree with Murray, this isn't about blocking - if you spend all your time looking in the mirror you will either crash, or be so slow people will just drive around you anyway - Saloons are far too fast to have the time to look and block - remember we don't travel at the leisurely pace that Stockcars do!
And yes, it should be a referee's job to decide if someone is driving illegally and penalise them if they have been.
Personally, I've never had anything other than a "wing" mirror, which as Murray says just allows you to see the pole line behind you - practical reason for that being that in my Corvette the rear spoiler is at the same level as the roof - so no way of seeing out of a "stockcar" style mirror in any case.
I have also had the experience of being called up to the ref's box for going back onto the track from the infield "without checking first" - to which he had no answer as to how I was meant to do that - strapped into a car with no peripheral vision - and by regulation - No mirror???!
So how do you reconcile that rule being on the books - if your not allowed the required mechanism for you to check?!
I've also had the experience of being taken into the wall while lapping a slower car, for no reason other than they were going very slowly and had no idea I was there - so just pulled across in front of me while there was a huge difference in speed between the cars. Very dangerous, very damaging, very annoying when leading a race - and totally avoidable if they had been allowed a mirror.
There is a lot of rubbish talked about mirrors in my opinion...

There should be a rule in saloon, mod midget and sprint cars that if the opposing car is far enough on your A pillar then you give him room if not then commonsense should prevail. This is merely throwing it out there for comment, never raced in any of these classes but can see a opportunity to reduce the chance of crashes and less cars competing.

Understand what you are saying but where do you put the A pillar on a high bar midget/ sprintcar chassis, as that runs all the way down to the front wheel... Again, common sense should prevail in most racing applications. If you are on the inside, go hard, to me thats right of way. But, as with Karting, if your front wheel is infront of the ither driver's seated position, you have right of way for that corner. So maybe saying infront of the cockpit.... (sorry off the topic of mirrors)

Sorry where I am coming from is, if a car moves to the high line up by the wall, and a fellow competitor is riding on the low line (pole). And if the car down low gets far enough (A pillar etc) then car on the high line gives way instead of coming down onto the pole line. Yes commonsense should prevail, easier said than done, and at the end of the day the official who decides who is in the wrong should use racing knowledge and a open mind to decide who is in the right. Drivers racing high speed classes that don't have mirrors currently already have their hands full. Adding a distraction could be dangerous and may create foul play.

I don't see what this has to do with mirrors - if your arguing about how far past an A pillar someone is (and of course the referee see's it from a different angle anyway) - then as they're alongside you won't see them in a mirror will you?! And, what have mirrors got to do with high speed racing?? They're to do with safely getting on and off the track and keeping out of the way when you are going slowly!! Anyone who has time to look in their mirror and block in a Saloon is living in the 70's - when Saloons went about the speed Productions do now and you had time for that sort of thing.
