Had the West Coast Stockcar CHamps and a derby today. Reasonable crowd, and good for the west coast standards numbers in the derby. Unfortunatly the stockcars had their worst numbers for the last 3 meetings for our local champs, but again shift work was the prime cause for us, and unfortunatly for those who had to miss out.
There were also a couple of drivers with damaged cars, and a couple with them in the sheds. Still, at least the showed up to watch, and paid some money into the clubs coffers. Bad luck for Jason Tasker in the 3rd meeting in the new purchase, blew a seal in the steering box taking it off the trailer, and dumped a bunch of oil on the ground. Hopefully we can source another one in time for King of the COast.
Race 1
Was off a middlish grid, and got away on a heavy, wet track. Had again changed tyre sizes on both rears to see what they would to the handling. in chaging down lost 1/2 inch of stagger, but ended up with 3 tyres the same size on the car, and it certainly felt a little more balanced. Had also straightened out a couple of steering arms in the week too, so was keen to see how it went with the small changes.
It felt pretty good. Olly making the moves through the race, he was hauling.
making the moves on me
kev put a block on that let us into 2nd and 3rd, but i was still too hot into turn 3 and was about to loose it back to 38gm who is on a mission.
in fact kev was putting the blocks on everyone, onya kev
Olly got past me in the end, the track recovered its drive, and a mid turn push developed late in the race that i struggled to adjust too – olly felt it too, but managed to keep it tight and got the gas on me down low. The holden has some torque out the turns with those big Hartly pistons.
Clevo had been battling a confusing engine problem that had been plaguing the tank in all his meetings to date – which i only half believed, as it had been pulling lap times 3/10ths off the fastest lap at every track he had raced at, despite still stirring it up. He’d replaced the crank sensor, pulley, and finally the coilpack – and boy did that solve it. Well, not the backfires, but man, it was boggying now, and had the big flames out the back of the beast.
Not only that, it was on the poleline doing it. Good to see it coming good for ya, even if you reckon the only reason you were running was the runs out the other end due to the dodgy zinger burger the day before haha.
Will come back again with the next two races as time allows. Thanks again too coast photos for the hard yards on the infield
