HI All, Received a text the other day about a meeting for stockcar drivers, pit crew, sponsors, or supporters interested in helping out with the Greymouth Grizzlies in the upcoming season. the txt is below "To all drivers AND CREW THERE WILL BE A BBQ/MEETING at Cleve Kookshorn's house at top of Power Road, Greymouth at 2pm on the 2nd of July to have a catch up and talk about teams racing for the coming season - all are welcome" Already good support for the meeting, and apologies too anyone who did not receive the text message - after some talk around it Stewy took the bull by the horns with Cleve, and they txt everyone they had on there phones. Thanks to Stewy for getting the txt sent out, and Clevo for being keen as mustard and opening up the house. If you were missed, apologies, but if you see this and are interested please come down for a catch up. Hopefully there are is a van that can come down from Westport for the night or at least the day to join the fun, as we have a few keen GM cars and crew up there. Will be a couple of fantas, and a hot plate and a few teams DVDs on the big screen to get us in the mood, and make sure everyone can see what can happen. below is the first race from King of the Coast this year that Andy the worker filmed. Includes a couple of good hits and one big roll over of a tank. Hope you enjoy.

HI All, Yes all welcome - the more people the more committed we can be to some offers we have already had from other teams wanting to race the Grizzlies next year. My dream is to go to Palmerston North next year, which is the home of teams racing and have a crack at the big time. Others think we should wait a bit longer. Walk before running etc These sorts of opportunities will be what we can discuss, along with the various drivers testicular fortitude, whos going to drill who, etc. The usual smack that gets thrown around when stockcar drivers get together! all welcome of course - here is a map of power road, Clevo is at the top of it, up the hill that looks a little like a driveway. Keep going right up the top, and you'll see the tank on the lawn that would make an excellent signpost I reckon, unless of course its allready at the Dyno shop in CHCH getting more power. maps.google.co.nz/maps?q=140+power+road,+greymouth&hl=en&ll=-42.482257,171.190939&spn=0.007295,0.02105&sll=-42.481782,171.18845&sspn=0.007295,0.02105&gl=nz&z=16 be aware this is not the number - will come back to you on this, but follow power road all the way to the top and you'll find it. good to hear a few are keen, but James you might need a GM on the car to be able to represent! GOod to hear

have a good look at what the Gisborne stock car team has achieved in the last few years. also from a fat flung track with plenty of distance to travel to race away - or attract other teams
they started with mainly old equipment but a lot of heart it seems. now they would probably be the most traveled/ raced stock car team in the last 2-3 seasons and beating top teams as well.
they seem to have depth in the club now to have a wider team plus a support base to help the team
racing is expensive let alone teams racing so if you can get the support of the community to support the racing then that makes the way forward so much easier
hope you guys manage to get something together as from what we are seeing on here the coast is going head in leaps in bounds in car count, quality of machinery etc.

Just tidying up a thread - thought this update will be best on this page. Will keep all other Grizzlies updates working on this thread. Have a good man working on the Logo teams colours etc, and the first draft looks real sharp. Look foward to showing the first efforts at the next teams meeting, dates of which are below. *************** Teams Meeting Reveiw Urgent notice: Next teams meeting will be Saturday September 10 - Punakaiki Tavern to shorten the distance for our westport brothers, and to do a bus trip to build morale Urgent notice #2: Greenstone Park Prizegiving is this weekend in the Brass Room at the Union Hotel. Commences at 7.15pm, so make sure your there keen to pick up a prize and celebrate your season with your clubmatesWe had a strong turnout of potential team mebers, supporters, and pit Crew to the tank commanders shed on Saturday. The 2.30 start was a little early for some, so some teams racing motivation from the "Greatest Hits" dvd by SMS served as motivation, or evidence for not doing depending on your point of veiw. As an aside, hopefully someone will do some of the big hits from the stockcar teams champs over the years, no doubt there will be plenty to choose from. Anyway, we had 20 people turn up, and 9 drivers put there hand up, and anothers name put foward in his absence. This puts us in a good place to put a team together, so we can start planning for a teams race with Nelson, who are keen to do a home and away trophy. This will be a good test for the team - there was some support for an attempt at PN and the national teams event this year, but the feeling in the room was lets see how we go against the big test that will be Nelson - if we fall over there, there's little point heading up to PN to do the Dunedin (no offence Dunedin superstock teams). The people present voted that Teams Bodys and Bonnets would be preferable to running old school with our normal gear, and matching flags. That option was put foward by Jonny old school Jnr (Tony O), proving the apple doesn't fall from the tree. Also voted to race against Nelson, and depending on results to investigate sponsorship for getting the Grizzlys to Palmerston North for the teams event. The meeting also discussed a couple of the roles in teams racing, such as blocking, running, and reading a race, and suggested those who were keen should have a shot at all these things if they want to make the team this year, since we have competition for places in the team. It was noticed the important part was reading ther ace - if your blocking, the ability to target the leader as the race goes on was one thing that is an excellent skill to have, and does not need the fastest car to complete. We discussed the need for a manager, and had two names put foward, both of whom were absent, but turned up late. One of those names is interested in teams racing, so that was good for the team, and left one name foward for the manager. We also need a couple of selectors to work with the manager and pick the team at the start of the season, so it would be good to hear from anyone who wants to help out in this department - you can reply to this thread or PM me if you like. A good meeting overall, and the attendees agreed another meeting before the start of the season was required. Next teams meeting will be Saturday September 10 - Punakaiki Tavern to shorten the distance for our westport brothers, and to do a bus trip to build morale Hopefully we will have some managers and selectors to bring along to the meeting. We will advise a time that suits, but I think 5-6pm should work.

i had thoughts on a logo for the last team cos i thought the all white bodies needed something. but i never did anything or mentioned it to anyone.. but this was my idea.. either one of these on the back with bear claw graphics on the body/bonnet...obviously therel be more cost with a vinyl print colour style rather than a black on white... Thanks for the contribution nogrip. We have had an awesome offer from a top man in Wellington who has provided a few logos, and a number of paintschemes on cars for us allready. All of the ones I've seen so far are pretty awesome, but am unwilling to post yet, as a few have a couple of prospective sponsors on them, and I don't want to jump the gun. once we have a couple picked out by the team and its supporters next week I'll post a preveiw here. Suffice to say the Grizzlies will look the part before we do the job

Hey bigabigsy - we sure are looking foward to a chance to race the Thunder on there own turf, and then getting a chance to represent in front of our home crowd later this season, or perhaps next. Might even have to start an annual trophy I reckon? heres a draft concept of what the teams cars can look like - we have 6 other options to consider for the team meeting this week Big thanks to Jacob for the graft in getting all these options together! If anyone you know is interested in helping the Grizzlies out this season, come down to the Punakiaki tavern this Saturday for a hours meeting (we will be heaps better that last times delayed start, promise!) and a couple of quiet beers before the trip home. cheers
