Teams Meeting Reveiw
Urgent notice: Next teams meeting will be Saturday September 10 - Punakaiki Tavern to shorten the distance for our westport brothers, and to do a bus trip to build morale
Urgent notice #2: Greenstone Park Prizegiving is this weekend in the Brass Room at the Union Hotel. Commences at 7.15pm, so make sure your there keen to pick up a prize and celebrate your season with your clubmates
We had a strong turnout of potential team mebers, supporters, and pit Crew to the tank commanders shed on Saturday. The 2.30 start was a little early for some, so some teams racing motivation from the "Greatest Hits" dvd by SMS served as motivation, or evidence for not doing depending on your point of veiw. As an aside, hopefully someone will do some of the big hits from the stockcar teams champs over the years, no doubt there will be plenty to choose from.
Anyway, we had 20 people turn up, and 9 drivers put there hand up, and anothers name put foward in his absence. This puts us in a good place to put a team together, so we can start planning for a teams race with Nelson, who are keen to do a home and away trophy. This will be a good test for the team - there was some support for an attempt at PN and the national teams event this year, but the feeling in the room was lets see how we go against the big test that will be Nelson - if we fall over there, there's little point heading up to PN to do the Dunedin (no offence Dunedin superstock teams).
The people present voted that Teams Bodys and Bonnets would be preferable to running old school with our normal gear, and matching flags. That option was put foward by Jonny old school Jnr (Tony O), proving the apple doesn't fall from the tree.
Also voted to race against Nelson, and depending on results to investigate sponsorship for getting the Grizzlys to Palmerston North for the teams event.
The meeting also discussed a couple of the roles in teams racing, such as blocking, running, and reading a race, and suggested those who were keen should have a shot at all these things if they want to make the team this year, since we have competition for places in the team. It was noticed the important part was reading ther ace - if your blocking, the ability to target the leader as the race goes on was one thing that is an excellent skill to have, and does not need the fastest car to complete.
We discussed the need for a manager, and had two names put foward, both of whom were absent, but turned up late. One of those names is interested in teams racing, so that was good for the team, and left one name foward for the manager. We also need a couple of selectors to work with the manager and pick the team at the start of the season, so it would be good to hear from anyone who wants to help out in this department - you can reply to this thread or PM me if you like.
A good meeting overall, and the attendees agreed another meeting before the start of the season was required. Next teams meeting will be Saturday September 10 - Punakaiki Tavern to shorten the distance for our westport brothers, and to do a bus trip to build morale Hopefully we will have some managers and selectors to bring along to the meeting. We will advise a time that suits, but I think 5-6pm should work.
