Anyone know if we are likely to see Glen Leech at the NZs as he is another Southern that has to be rated as a title contender

Pretty sure 1NZ will be staying in the Naki, Prob not the bloke in the Green machine but a bloke in a black machine with 67s on the side of it, been absolutely flying as of late

LUKE KEEGAN 871C FOR 1NZ pulling a wheelstand from a restart at the last meeting in Stratford, rather impressive too, has some pretty good power in that machine, for him to come from 4th and pass Mark Dixon, Blair Luscombe and then chase down Jacko for the lead and then open up a good lead on him says something, have the footage here, i'll post it up

Yep, have to agree, Bunter looking real good so far this season. He would need to start as one, if not the, favorite for NZ's. Jacko has had a few issues this season so far but I wouldn't be writing him off just yet! Luke really comes on strong in the later stages of races and if the title was going to be decided on a race deal I would have thought he would be hard to beat given how he destroyed the field in Wgtn late last year. As title is going to be run on the 3 heat format, this may count against him a little. I am not for one minute saying he can't win it, I am just saying that the format does not suit him as much as the one race deal. I hear a fairly large contingent of cars will be heading up from the SI so add in the great numbers of locals and Stratty cars and it could be one of the largest fields of mods assembled for a NZ title in years. I expect a few Auckland cars to venture down as well. Couple of predictions: 1/ A Wgtn car could easily be on the podium somewhere. 2/ A Stratty car will be on the podium somewhere 3/ Runoffs will be required to find finalists 4/ Would not surprise me to see a runoff required for final podium positions. 5/ The overall winner will likely be the guy who has the most luck on the night and will not necessarily be the fastest. 3 heat formats generally throw up winners who get the benefit from other peoples misfortune, have half the field DNF from your rear start heat and you could be the benefactor of a bag full of points without passing a car! Personally believe there is nothing between a group of 6-8 cars, all of them a going good enough to win the event. Lets all just hope the weather plays its part and all this rain disappears before the event!

it going to be hard to win with so many quality drivers. drivers i feel have a shot at 1nz 2nz and 3nz 5gm brandon parkinson 54gm steve thompson 4c mike gourley (if he goes) 13c david thompson 49c maurice headley 871c luke keegan 1nz john jackson 4s mark dixon 8s sean rice 67s bunter peirce 3nz jamie fox 19a scott lane 64a grant harris and then 3-4 wellington cars and then theres the underdogs.they could race well and have really good luck, its really anybodys championship
predictions: a south island car will win (luke keegan) current 3nz (jamie fox) will take 2nz a stratford car will take 3nz (mark dixon) there will be a 2 car runoff for 3nz (mark dixon vs bunter peirce) and mark dixon will win

And its a shame as he is the fastest man in a mod that ever has been around Wellington. I very much doubt that a south island car will be in the top 5 but if there is one that will be it will be luke. From what i have heard out of the north island it will be a race between bunter and Jamie fox. it will be a good championship to see, sad that i wont get to see it.

Blair is certainly a realistic podium chance, not only is he showing good pace but is taking a mature approach to driving this season. Displaying more patience than in the past, being willing to work at a pass for a few laps when necessary. He is also the most consistent local, as the Wellington Champs showed when, rather than pushing for the chequered flag he took out the title with just enough passes every heat.

After last nights qualifying the predicted 1NZ, 3NZ and 871C certainly showed why they are the pundits favourites. A few others stood out in my mind as well, 5W Brian McPhee looked quick and was able to qualify with only two heat finishes. Both 91W and 9W put on a good showing qualifying with ease. I must admit a few that looked more impressive that I expected were 24C Dan Rae who, in a 383 powered car, looked as quick as anyone, 17W Jonas England who would not look out of place on the podium if he performs as well as last night and 13C David Thompson who was super-smooth and quick.
