Hi all,
Think its about time to get another update up, hard to believe Christmas is just a couple of weeks away and we have done 4 meetings at home and 1 away in nelson for the thunder v grizzlies team race.
The changes made to the 3rail over the offseason have been working really well with the landcruiser gearbox feeling really strong and getting off the line well, it is easy to stall on take off though if I haven’t got enough revs on and yes I have done it, twice actually haha.
The club meetings have been getting really interesting with the flag being shared among a lot of different drivers which is fantasic as everyone is getting faster and using the bumpers giving the growing number of spectators a real look at what stockcar racing is and yes I am very one eyed towards stockcars.
The trip to nelson for the teams race was the meeting we were looking forward to and had been prepping the cars as well as we could, we took a full team of 6 cars up all in team bodies which looked really good and added to the hype amongst the team.
Unfortunatly we didn’t get the result we were looking for but gave it a good shot and well done to the thunder, you looked after your runner better than we did and we look forward to meeting again in the new year for the rematch. A big thanks to John Ohalleron and suspension developments for putting the trophy up for this annual match up, and sorry hads for bringing this up again. (his councilor told him to bury the hurt deep down and never bring it up again)
Next big meeting which has just been was the komatsu south island stockcar champs hosted by greenstone park, it was great to see the local pits fill up with stockcars.
Run over 2 days with qualifying on Friday. Was mainly racing on Friday with everyone looking for a spot in the top 8 of each group, we qualified 2nd in our group along with 9 other gm cars and 2 more gm cars got in through the repacharge.
As the sun again streamed down on Saturday the action on track was just as hot with cars in the wall, rolled over or just spinning out it was awesome and real busy from the drivers seat race 1 for me from a grid 14 managed to get home in 7th and a win in race 2 left me 3rd on points going into the last race behind cleve 99gm and Ralph 28e,
I had grid 26 for this race right at the back and with points quite tight for the top 6 spots didn’t think I had much chance but after the turn 1 pile up I popped up in 5th and with help from the other gm cars was in the lead with 2 laps to go but after a good turn 4 block by Vaughan 17c tank dropped me back to 3rd which was enough to hang on 3rd overall behind cleve and Ralph.
Well done to all the drivers and thanks for supporting the event, you all put on a great show which is still being talked about a week later, also to the greenstone park committee awesome effort, well done.
Time to head back to the workshop and start replacing the bent bits again……
Merry Christmas and enjoy the break, good luck to the nz competitors in rotorua would love to be up there to defend my 21nz but not to be. lol
Cheers Olly
