From where I sat on night one of the NZ Stockcar champs the meeting ran just swell , plenty of on track crashing action , a well run program of Stockcars, Stockcars and more Stockcars with minimal delays on a good track surface . Commentary was great with a lot of effort put into making sure as many results were announced as possible along with mid race updates on the state of play with regards points. Faultless really apart from perhaps the less than tasty hotdog I had although the carton of chips and doughnuts were pretty good I say Well done Rotorua, and all the drivers that took part. Lets just hope the weather holds for night two, a tad warmer would be nice too.

Was a MASSIVE job trying to get 21 consecutive races out, grids, points, sub-totals, biggest moves etc etc in the 24 car fields, not leaving time for much in the way of interviews or any other information. Tonight we'll be concentrating on that final 28, so they'll be a lot more interviews and pit information on those guys. It's going to be a real spectacle, especially if the 14 Rotorua and Palmy cars go to war!! Will that allow somebody else to sneak through and take the win?

from a southern view (opposite end of track as well lol) the meeting was faultless, a lot of info to take back to shaky town for next years title.. just shows what happens when you have a numbers advantage on the track. thinking now how to get results thru for next year, thinking prehaps some tv/moniters around the track and let those that want to follow results closely write them down ... always hard trying to listen with so many distractions, but boys did a great job in getting as much info across as possible..

I Watched it on speedbox it was good but there was so much action the camera couldn't keep up.
It must of been a good night live there was plenty going on.
Also seemed to get through the races really quick considering the carnage.
Welldone Rotorua and speedbox

Fantastic to be back at Paradise and out of the quakey shakey city of Chch. Well done to all it was a great night! Positives: 1. Fantastic commentary Paul, Barry and the new man on the job! 2. Fluid balance between commentary and results. The whole event appeared to be well organsised. I'm really curious as to the process from when the cars pass the finish line to when they are relayed to audience. It must not be easy as there was some changes due to drivers not adhering to timelines. Can someone exlain that please? It may help others to understand the work that goes on behind the scenes. 2. Lots of on track action sometimes brutal. You don't see that action in most finals. Well done drivers! 3. Track appeared to hold up well and was consistent all night. 4. Weather perfect well done Gordon!
Constructives: Couple of smallies: 1. When results are posted over commentary can the car number be mentioned so we can keep up with results on programme. Some of us don't know the drivers and their numbers to map results. 2. Sad for those drivers who failed scrutineering especially South Island cars and couldn't make it on the track however I'm thankful there appears to be no tolerance to illegal specs. 3. Boo hoo boo hoo for disqualifying Nick Vallance - I was on turn two and had a line of sight down the straight and when he hit the 'I" car he was on the track not by much but it was legal! His momentum going up and over carried him on the grass. Bad call officials - you got that one wrong! In my opinion the commentary team made a judgement on Nick that appeared to have influenced officals. What do others think? ;D
Bring on tonight and whoever wins deserves it!

Constructives: Couple of smallies: 1. When results are posted over commentary can the car number be mentioned so we can keep up with results on programme. Some of us don't know the drivers and their numbers to map results. I think that will be a LOT easier tonight when we'll largely be concentrating on just the three races - last night it was hard enough getting out what we did between one race and the next.

Agree with Nick Vallance being hard done by. It happened directly in front of our seat and he was definitely on the track when initial contact was made. It did happen fast so it was always going to be a hard call for officials if they never witnessed actual impact. One of the best nights racing I have seen for a while. Well done drivers and officials.

Loved it, except when Gary Lonergan's car expired half a lap from being a finalist... gutted!!!
Without looking at a video I though 45r attacked way on to the grass, will be interesting to see footage though.
Only downer was seeing a few cars on trailers before the meeting, specially ones that have raced before this season and have passed greensheeting??
Sound system was great, good commentary, really looking forward to tonight, go the Aucks!! 741a, 242a and amazing performance from young 29a Scott Tennant.

Enjoyed the first night, it was a credit to all those concerned. Well done Sonja and team. The logistics involved in putting on an event of this magnitude are huge, from the terraces everything seemed to work well. A punishing event was efficiently presented and the meeting flowed well. (The light drizzle that threatened during the break was the only concern) The drivers raced and entertained – great stuff. The track appeared to hold up well. (Hope it is overcast tonight as those wide tyred winged wobblers have the potential to suck out most of the tracks moisture.) It was a pleasure to hear the best team of announcers in NZ – great work guys.
Some of the younger drivers shone with track speed, and unsurprisingly made some simple errors and were unable to qualify. These guys have plenty of good years ahead and it is heartening to see the quality of the current crop of the “junior” drivers.
From the terraces it appeared the ref was correct with how 45R was dealt with (Others could argue he got off lightly).
Roll on the finals

Food and entertainment was well done. Loved the clown and all the antics with the truck. Food was lovely and hot chocolate divine. We sat on the terraces opposite the start line and everyone was happy that we could see. Bit cold with the wind on the second night but we just wrapped up in blankets. Well run meeting as per always for Rotorua and their team.
