Thanks Speedbox. We were able to watch both nights via Mobile broadband in Mangakino. Yes it did drop out from time to time and yes we did have to refresh a couple of times, but ... hey... it was on a Vodafone vodam and not connected to a land line. Whats more we watched most of it on the high stream. Thanks Speedbox... we will be back.

Norton and the production team will be thrilled to hear the feedback guys. It's been a trying few years for them, and it's good to know all of the hard work is now reaping some results and rewards.

The first night for us was great. We had to do the reload that everyone did, and there were a couple of freezes, but otherwise was bang on. The second night was absolutely perfect! We thoroughly enjoyed both nights and look forward to Auckland.

Finals night on Sunday was my first experiance with using Speedbox live streaming and have to say great job guys. I had it set up on the highest quality download and hooked up to a 56" HD TV and it looked great all night. Only had 2 hic cups i think all night and each was only for about 5 - 10 seconds so nothing at all to complain about. If anything, they could probably do with some mic's or something on the back straight to try and get some of the sound of the cars and crowd a bit more into ur living room as the cars were a little quiet. But not complaing at all, was a good night in watching the racing.

It always bothers me that they have so many problems....things fall off roofs, satelites stop working ...I cant recall all the problems they have had...In the beginning it didnt matter so much..the service was new, it was pretty cheap too...but now 5 years on and charging 30 and 35 bucks a night... you would think that they have a handle on what they are doing by now..but sadly still not. (The first night this year was a shocker with pictures stopping and starting...picture freeze...etc.).. 5 years ago when we were paying a little money and it was all new..well it was ok...but now..well its quite poor really. now that they think they are good enough to charge these sorts of prices you'd think that their confidence would be matched by the quality of the product..sadly not...they advertise for us to get some friends round and watch the meeting...well we did that for qualifying and it bit us on the arse....the second night was better..as it should have been on night one...we have never missed a meeting with these ppl...if we havent been at the meeting they were showing...but im tired of the problems...every time there is a problem they look at the user first, never them selves, oh its your connection. oh its your computer..what a load of rubbish..we have the best connection and gear money can buy...you cant trust them to do it right...one day I would love to have a problem free meeting from start to finish...thats both nights...not just the second after they had a horror the first night...I have never seen a crew have so many problems in my working life...its like they try to do something on the cheap cheap then when its a balls up they try to do it properly...the current pricing doesnt relect the crappy quality of their camera work or their unreliability...it also suprises me each meeting how many people are happy with the poor service they have recieved...even now the typing has started in their defense...but really, should continued poor service be defended?...5 years... its a long time to keep making F ups and still charge for it...go back to charging sweet F A for the service and i''l say nothing more...continue to charge like professional company and you will be held up against those standards...so far speedbox are failing in my book...its great that someone is there to film the events..I agree..,its fantastic to be able to see meetings we cant go to...but there's money involved.. and when there's money involved..the service better be good....I am, for the first time sending an email asking for a refund for night one..I wont be letting them off any more....I have done that for 5 years and they havent stopped making F ups so Im no longer giving my money away for free.....night two was good enough so no bother there... if everyone treats speedbox like a service provider they will have to get better, complain when its due...take a refund when its due,...you wouldnt accept a big mac that had a bite out of it...or 3 quaters of a pint...so why put up with poor service any longer...come on speedbox...how about stopping with all the problems at last..so i can stop winging and be happy spending 65 bucks with you in a weekend... Ps you folks may think that so few cameras is good. ..I hate seeing a camera pan across the whole park to find the action.......

Gee Zitadel , glad you described yourself as whinging.
Sitting in Rotorua we were watching and apart from the refresh on night 1 we had continuous service throughout the 2 nights. That would suggest it's your system or your internet service provider letting you down.
So far as camera work goes we all thought they did an excellent job this weekend , the best yet and I am one of those who has been critical of such aspects. I doubt we missed any action of consequence and probably less than if we had been at the venue. Of course we had the advantage of replays in many instances too.
This time around I'm critical of your attitude to it all rather than the service offered and supplied.

They have priced their service a little closer to a single adult gate price this year I believe zitadel. $30 per night (I think it was the same both nights?) for the Teams Champs coverage on Speedbox, get around a few friends at it's like what, $5 per head per night? To attend the meeting it was $40 per person per night, $50 (+ booking fee) per person per night if you wanted to reserve a grandstand seat, plus all of the other associated costs with physically attending the meeting. Even with a couple of issues, frustrating as that may be, it's still pretty good darn value.
Broadband, particularly in New Zealand it seems, is a funny beast. You can have the best of everything money can by at your end, and still have problems. Somebody tried to get the service on dial-up over the weekend. That'd be like pulling the string tighter between the baked bean cans!! Another customer had no problems watching a high quality feed on Night 1, things didn't go so well even with the lowest quality setup on night 2. Some times there's no logic, and obviously your problems were the opposite way round. As mentioned earlier, there was some massive usage spike at 8pm on the first night, like sudden 400% increase in numbers trying to log on, which is non-sensical. Spammed? Who knows..........
Most had no problems, or very few, it seems, but your name was mentioned over the weekend among the crew, so you are world famous in New Zealand.........

I think what Zitadel was referring to was in regaurds to the cameras suddenly panning accross from one side of the track to the other. I have to admit that it did make ya feel a bit time warpy when it happened but I personally wasnt going to mention it. I think it just comes down to the guy pushing the buttons selecting what camera is going to air and communications to the camera guys.
I know when I had a go of a TV Camera at Bathurst one year I got a whole new perspective of how it all works. You got the main picture in your view finder with a square box in the corner showing you the footage that is going to "AIR". and then in your headphones you have the tv commentry in one ear and your producer in the other ear! It was all a bit of a handful.
I dont know what sort of set up or cameras the speedbox guys use but I think from my experiance on Sunday that they are doing a pretty good job.
unfortunatly ya cant do much about the internet or weather interuptions etc, I know I get plenty of weather interuptions on SKY also, so even the best of them has their issues.

A bit of a headful might be a better phrase haha I was tuned in to the track commentary (4 commentators on the second night) via the FM in one ear, the Speedbox comms (between the producer, director and the 3 cameramen) coming through the other ear, whilst also trying to listen to the drivers etc I was talking to!!!! Oh for a third ear.......... My biggest problem was that I was using one mic for live interviews, a different one for the recorded ones, and being a bit simple it was usually a 50/50 call whether I'd be holding the wrong one at the right time ;D It's no wonder we hear voices late at night when trying to sleep.....

Where the interviews done during the parade live or recorded for later use? And do you have any idea why Scott Meirs had a camera filming him during the parade on the Sunday night?

The panning of the camera looking for action was fine by me, rather that than looking at nothing much happening while wondering what was happening or shaping up to happen somewhere else on the track.

The Grand Parade interviews were broadcast live over the Speedbox coverage. I did see Malcolm Sines (who filmed the NZ Champs at Huntly last weekend) down there on the second night bolting a camera into Scott Miers' car - not sure what he was up to though.....

We're in Blenheim and watched all the second night on high Def. Apart from a few freezes no more than 10 seconds though it was great. We watched it on a laptop using WiFi so the freezing may be related to that. Now all I need is someone to tell me how to hook up the laptop to the big flat-screen and I'll be a happy camper.
