I can understand the first point, it is a little confusing, but what do you have to back up the second statement? Barry I am an ex Mauler and have talked to a lot of the drivers on this subject in both classes. Andrew Powell ex 78b,83b So what don't they like about it Andrew? Do they feel the Top 4 after night 1 should REMAIN the Top 4? And is it because they feel it's confusing? Or unfair?

All the drivers that I have spoken to have said that they will drive to the format put in front of them. They also believe if you Qualify in the top four on the first night that is where you should stay because you have earned it.

there is an easy fix to this have 12 teams or 16 teams Even with 12 teams, PN still run the same Night 2 format where the 5th-8th placed teams can come back up to 3rd, have done for years.

All the drivers that I have spoken to have said that they will drive to the format put in front of them. They also believe if you Qualify in the top four on the first night that is where you should stay because you have earned it. That's where I disagree, as they haven't really earned it as they've only raced two of the other 10 or 11 teams present. The format dictates that you're only in the Top 4 if you do things right over two nights, not just two races. This is what I posted earlier; I think it's a good and fair format that keeps the teams in 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th in contention for something.
But as far as the overall result goes, the teams that keep winning win, the teams that keep losing lose.
It has to be accepted that the Top 4 after the first night are sometimes there more due to the results of other races than their own, sometimes due to the luck (either good or bad) of the draw. Each team has only raced 2 of the other 10 teams present, not all of them, so it's not always a true indication. Some teams may draw two tough sides, other two weaker sides, therefore their position in the Top 4 could be a little artificially inflated points wise at the half way point. If a team can come back from 8th to finish 3rd after a punishing first night, they arguably are the third best team there.

Judo and most martial art comps are done the same way, so we (my family) are used to this format. That's why there is no run off for 7/8th, same as judo no 4th just two 3rds. It gives that group every(sometimes more) reasons to compete hard(Gladiators), podium and seeding.
