havent done much at all, ive been pretty flat out lately. the new steering box turned up last night and is only twice the size of the mazda one.. shes a monster... will take it to work next week to take the pitman arm off and machine the splined end down to make a drop arm tube.
waiting on a seat to arrive, should be early next week.. i need to go through and find the rules on belts anchorage points before i mount the seat just to make sure theres enough room for the belts.
only thing ive been able to achieve this weekend is to weld up the top rail carb bump...
off to dunedin tomorrow for the day so wont get anything done on it..

got the seat mounted today aswell as the rest of the steering, although i still need to change one thing in the steering to improve the angle in the steering to the left..lots of lock to lock...decided to go with the kirkey seat again as its pretty similar to the ultrashield i used in the 2nd chassis, and that felt quite comfortable with some extra padding i put in it.. and weighs alot less than the racetech.. i still need to put in a lateral brace next to the seat, but wll hold off untill i get some belts so i can work out the mount first....

Hi Paul, Looking good bud. Just spotted you have a full 4 link set up on the rear. Have you got rotation floaters on the diff that the links go into??? If the 4 links are in to solid mounts you will have a huge bind in the rear end when the diff goes up and down on each side.It wont bind when you lift it up evenly but will bind up if you lift one side on compression and extension. At best it will bend your brackets and links....at worst you will have a wicked mid turn push you NEVER get rid of.

Yes Pete, we are going to tackle that this weekend hopefully after nutting out some options.aswell as relocating the panhard off the right of the diff, and making it longer.
Its getting closer now that the seat and steering is in.
Sort out the back end and address the suspension...then its only the cage and bumpers/siderails and some little bits to go...

bloody man flu is holding me up
have just finished off the drop arm bush on the hip plate, made it greasable, welded in a couple of filler plates, tidied up some welds ready for the plates to go on over top..
and now ive run out of gas on the mig...
i had a play with the Y body yesterday, strung it over the top with some rake and i must say it doesnt look too bad and isnt as big as what i thought it was when i last tried it...

go some steam on and cut out the front link uprights and replaced them with some 50x50x4 with crush tubes etc.. both sides are done..fairly quick and easy job.. did this for 2 reasons... 1: i didnt like the look or the idea of the 50x25x4, and the rod end inside it 2: to get the correct link arm heights/angles in relation to the rear. next job tomorrow is to do the front panhard arm and mount, and the rear aswell.. another half decent hit at it...
got the rear panhard mount brackets make and welded in, made a new panhard, now it goes from the right link mount on the diff right to the outer edge of the left side of the chassis.... with the 4 link, ive taken off the top right arm, this was going to foul on the modified top rail anyway, and this has stopped or atleast minimised any bind in the rear.
ive also made some new rear lower shock mounts that bring the shock away from the diff abit more aswell as bringing the shock down a bit. so i just have to set the shocks up for the ride height and make the shock towers in the rear...
the front end i cant really finish untill i get some 10" springs instead of the 12"s...
picked some thrust bearings and washers for the hubs, so that they pivot nicely cos someone has drilled out the kingpin sleeve to 25mm aswell as the hub, any loaded weight was making it bind up on the base,so these should help alot. i got the idea for these from the Wayne Wilding car i had..
sorry no photos cos my phone went flat, maybe tomorrow ae

point to note is my lower rail ride height with the bumpers and siderails set at 360mm centres will be 130mm off the ground.

continuation of the siderails and outriggers part 2.. still need to do the lower angled braces, and figure out how to do the centre top outrigger as the drop arm passes the upright where i wouldve put it.. i am also going to put plates on the ends of the outriggers when i go to fully weld them in....need to cut the plates first in other news im on the hunt for a smaller radiator due to changing a few things it no longer fits.. this one is 23"x23" and about 80mm thick...shes a monster..im trying to find one thats alot lower but longer, somewhere around 380x650 would be ideal..

had an idea for the left outrigger.. and after looking through Jarreds stockcar build in the tech pages had confirmed my suspicion that itll work... so what ive done it i set the front wheels to the left as far as theyd go, took the drop arm tube off and put it back on so that it has some room to clear the outrigger when its attached to the chassis... then check to make sure it turns fully to the right..
it all works.. so ive only got the diagonals, front siderail horns and wheel gate mounts to do on them...and fully weld them up..
ive also added in an upright at the end of the hip plate where i cut it out for the top rail to move out. also made new turrets for the coilovers...i didnt set them up for the current shocks, i set them up for a 20" upright in the front and a 24" in the rear..i just so happens my junk shocks fit for now.
jobs left to do so i can get it pulled apart for painting:
mount a radiator mount fuel tank battery box cage belt mounts accelerator pedal wheel gates get some wheels for the front so i can make the bumper braces make rear caliper brackets make firewall filler plates fit gussets body mounts make a dash panel and fit the mounts
all pretty easy little jobs except the cage off course..

Looking good. You will be surprised how easy the cage is once you start on it.

since the last update ive got the wheel gates on nice new alloy radiator mounted, need to mount the fan to finish that job off..
being realistic in not expecting to be race ready till xmas. having to buy a new helmet, transponder etc dents the build fund a bit.
the biggest bits to do is get the cage bent up,get some wheels and belts.. ive got the cage tube here ready to bend
