Just to clarify, Junior WAS in the five last year but didn't race until the Auckland meeting. There were plenty of calls (in hindsight) last year when Dale Ewers' car was clearly patched together to have had McKenzie in the team but he didn't do any more than the warmup laps in Palmerston North in 2012.
In Auckland he won a race he was sent out as a runner in, and this year, he was told to expand his range and block against Wellington in Nelson and did a very good job.
His time will come. Maybe in Auckland again this year? As explained by one of the Tigers selectors, it's not just a number on the side or results in an individual race that swings a decision one way or the other ... there are spares, chemistry, history and many other intangibles.
And it WAS the hardest selection the Nelson team has had to make in recent years.
We are all very very clever after the event.

Icant understand the panic we came third thats pretty bloody good.We have about what , nine cars to select from how many cars can palmy and other north island cars call on if needed. For such a small club the Tigers do an awesome job.

Well done to the Tigers, a top notch performance as always.

Those people saying the the Tigers were off or had a poor performance against the Hawkeyes are being very condescending toward the Hawkeyes. Just face the fact that a very good Tigers team were bettered by a high performing Hawkeyes team that DID NOT ALLOW the Tigers to fire. Well done HB

I think it was a combination of things, as even the race Nelson won on the Friday night they did not win as well as expected (110-85). Dale Ewers admitted they did not perform well that night, and a part of that can be the opposition doing a better job than expected obviously although I was surprised how unprotected the Nelson run cars were on Night 1. They definitely improved for the Saturday, like a bunch of boys who had kicked each other up the proverbial.........

Thanks Barry ... No one needs to disrespect the Hawkeyes to still state that the Tigers messed up. They knew it, admitted it, remedied it.

Yes but the gloss certainly comes off a touch when posts seem to suggest that hawkeyes won only because nelson underperformed.Mike mac was the differance in that race i believe.Take him out and i bet ya boots nelson win it comfortably.

Again, totally agree. Mike had an oustanding performance all weekend. His blocking was very effective without putting himself in overly vulnerable positions or making suicide lunges that could have put him out. He was a among the best all weekend.

I'm not knocking them at all I am a fan I'm just putting it out there that I don't think that that was nelsons best team. Yes I wouldn't have a clue on how selection or that goes but why is there not a boote or Stanaway in the team?? One has lot of experience the other one none but who cares the deep end is always best place to start. I agree with TOMB... a fan does not knock their team.
