It's no wonder drivers tend to stay off here ... The official response from Tigers captain Dale Ewers, who has an account but chooses not to vent on here, is that he will smile more in future. On Friday, during scrutineering in the Square, he developed a migraine. It prevented him eating and would have prevented him racing if the Tigers selectors hadn't chosen to put their captain out there. He didnt smile a lot in the grand parade, not because he was bored, past it or making way for new blood. His head hurt. He won the first race and might have had the second but for a lapse in the Tigers' tactics and a strong showing from a very capable (and ultimately, unbeaten) Hawkeyes team. On Saturday, the team pulled together, closed the gaps and had two good wins. Ewers took a very uncomfortable reverse shot into the wall in turn two which rattled the headache again and split a ZF gearbox but he was on the track when his team took third overall. So, there you are, not excuses but explanations... The Tigers squad were deemed by two very experienced selectors the best they had on recent and current form. There is talent in Nelson's ranks, but not all of those drivers were willing to teams race. A drivers meeting at the start of the season sought an expression of interest in being involved with the Tigers, 7n was a no, 5n was keen but it's not Nick's car and 87n wanted to make sure the combination was right before going teams racing.

Oh and to correct a mistake I made in an earlier post, the 85N car was not at less than full power when it went out for the final in 2012. It had needed a lot of work but was good to go ... A big slap early in the race dislodged a cutout wire and the engine stopped.
Again, Dale could have said this himself but sometimes it's a messy wee can of worms in the forum.

over reactions misinterpretations and general misinformed along with rumours is what keeps the place ticking...

bahahaha thats priceless ;D i wouldn't have thought dale would have cared two hoots if someone thought he wasn't smiling enough. dale is the tigers biggest asset and he gives that car and himself a mammoth pounding. i do hope he hangs in there for a bit longer.

Tongue was firmly in cheek, Buster. But the suggestion that he looked less than interested went down like a turd in the punch bowl.

Best post ever Pete!!! Dale Ewers is the man. I have huge respect for the guy. I just hope that he can race for as long as he is able to, without risking his health. Clearly the fact that he raced after suffering a migraine shows how much he loves his sport - and his dedication to it. Cant wait to see him and the Tigers racing next year at Palmy. Keep up the great work DERT - ignore the haters!!!

I apologise to Dale, but I am not psychic and I should not be expected to know what is happening with drivers. I am just telling it like I saw it. Not to mention that I had people mentioning it to me as well.

Some comments on here are really over the top . What more are these drivers meant to do . There must be a whole heap of work and stress involved with getting a team on track for these events , not to mention what else goes on in their own life Give all of these drivers a break ,they travel miles and put in long hours to put on a show and please the crowds. Dale Ewers has a racing record to be proud of ,with his on personal racing as well as teams racing. Give the man the respect he deserves.. The Tigers would be a hell of a lot worse off without his experience .

Guys really..... I freaking apologised. It's not fair that people should keep making me feel bad for something that I saw with my eyes. Fairs fair k?

This Warriors fan thought that Dale Ewers was one of the better performed drivers over the weekend just gone. He raced when he had to, hit when he had to, and put his car and body on the line for his team as he has done year after year. This Warriors fan would also be delighted if Nelson dropped him because:
a) It would make beating Nelson that much easier, and b) He might even be able to be persuaded to race for one of the smaller teams; like the Warriors ;D
Keep on doing what you do best Dale; you're a champion driver and a champion bloke.

Yes, he is certainly one of the best around - no question there. Would be one of the first names picked in most teams I would think.

Thanks for posting totspete. I know as a fan I do get a bit down hearted when me and my 3 kids wave to the drivers and they don't wave back. Me personally, I wave to say thanks for what they do and I get my kids to wave to try to get them to feel part of speedway. Unless you know a driver it is hard to be a fan at times. After reading this post I will try to be a better fan.
and yep would love Dale to race for the Warriors

I found that blasting an air horn as they drive past gets their attention fairly easily!!! I am 110% positive that if you did that with Dale going past and he had a migraine you would get a response from him
