Teams racing was top notch, but the surrounding 'package' can be easily improved.
The young guy (Hayden) seems to have some promise, but Mr yell over the top in the middle needs to be turned down so he doesn't distort the speakers and be given a small radio so he doesn't cut in over the top to read the team list again (without looking at who's actually on track) , or throw out a hard to hear/understand one liner that cuts straight back to an overly loud Rock FM track.
Isn't the idea meant to be to rebuild WP as a destination? If so, why have 6 ministocks learning to do clutch starts at 7.25pm, a saloon program that was pretty pedestrian and a single mod turn laps?

Nobody could fault the Teams racing or the commitment of the drivers involved. Mike Mac eh? Great to see him in the Auckland blues.
There were some strange calls from upstairs too I thought, both calls made and a calls NOT made, but I think most references to issues with the meeting refer to the peripherals.......

I had to watch online and would not normally take time to look on this board while racing is on as what is on my screen would keep be more than happy.
last night it got that bad at one point - where we had to listen to constent replays with the screaming commentator driving me nuts - I very nearlt shut it down and turned on the rugby.
THere was already a couple of threads going including this one commenting about how bad things were.
interesting to note there seemed to be a sudden change in that the main commentator started calling more races and a lot less cross over to the infield so spmeone got the point eitehr via this board or from what they heard in front of them.
The racing may have been good however the overall experaince could have been brought up several levels by a strong and complementary commentatory team.
The team at the park certainly need to work on this as it is a huge turn off currently.

I was wondering when someone was going to mention this. There was a heck of a lot of grass action, particularly during the Nelson vs Manawatu match. There was also a particularly bad incident during the Baypark vs Wellington match to mention a couple. Yet not one relegation all night as far as I am aware. It's similar to last year where the officials did nothing all weekend and then relegated Shane Penn in the final. Fair Dinkum if they do nothing all weekend and relegate someone in the final I might experience spontaneous human combustion

Hi there just thought I would thank everyone for the kind words about my commentry (im hayden) and yes only young only 21 so still alot more learning to do but I am loving it and hope to carry on for many years. Enjoy reading some of the criticism on here as it helps me see what I need to improve on and what we as a team need to tune. So thanks for the kind words about my commentary over the weekend :-)

Good on ya Hayden. I think the most important thing to always keep in the back of your mind is that the crowd can't see ELS - so whatever you can tell them to help clarify who is where is what's most helpful.
The second thing is that any "inside" info is what keeps it really interesting ie why a car didn't come out, what broke, points, etc.
Keep up the good work.

No awful music either so that was a plus. Keep at it , get around the tracks if you can to see how some of the best do it would be my best advice.

Naturally with the commentary/sound system being what it is at Waikaraka to my knowledge we were never told anything about official rulings.

Naturally with the commentary/sound system being what it is at Waikaraka to my knowledge we were never told anything about official rulings. I think we're still waiting for all of the official results from Night 1 aren't we? The ASSCC website (unlike the Palmy one) never carries such information, even after such a big meeting. We did hear an "official result" from one race, where the score was something like (from memory) 160-45 (or 170-35), which is wierd because not only are there not that many points allocated even if all cars finished the race, in this particular race only 2 cars finished!! It's not really good enough on such a night. The Friday night Panthers vs Busters race points didn't seem to match the order they appeared to cross the line either, so there must have been a relegation? Some other results I did not hear at all, official or otherwise. On such a night we need; 1/ Unofficial race result, as they cross the line, as taken off the ELS (immediate) 2/ The official race result once decided (can take awhile) 3/ The two results compared, and if they're different the reason WHY they are different (who was relegated and/or disqualified, and the reason why) The SNZ referee on duty is MORE than happy to assist with such information, and fans paying $30 per night deserve to receive it. From macgor's comment it doesn't sound like there was much improvement with information flow on Night 2, although I do believe the dreaded "music" was finally muted. Be thankful for small mercies I guess. I don't think the format, and how the points are allocated, were ever explained actually. Certainly there was absolutely nothing before the Ministocks rolled out the gare for their practice clutch-starts on the Friday. Once again, from what I saw on Friday night and what I heard on Saturday night, the on track action was superb. Big ups to all the drivers and crews.

Is that what is wrong with our sport... The racers/drivers/players/supporters/crews etc all seem to manage to - put on good racing, most of the time
- enjoy the racing, most of the time
- get some of the info requried in promotion of the pre meeting, while the meeting is on, and results after the meeting
All of this despite, not because of those charged with running (and ALL that goes with that before, during & after) the meetings?

Mind you, I happened to hear some "toe the official NASCAR line" comentary this morning, during yet another boring race, so even one of the most professional of all motorsports is struggling with its own identity.
Denny Hamlin, who I've never liked, is now my hero because he dared to criticise the new Gen 6 car they're racing this year. They look great, but for some reason don't seem to generate close racing and passing, NASCAR's biggest drawcard.
NASCAR's response? Fine Hamlin $25,000. "I'm not paying" says Hamlin, "they can suspend me if they like, I don't care". Way to go Denny.
Anyway, to the race, and we have two cars battling for position when they come up to lap a slower car who is in turn lapping an even slower car. We briefly have passing, deserving of a super-slow-motion replay. "You want passing, we have passing" says one in his unbearable Southern drawl. Maybe we're not doing so bad after all ;D ;D ;D

Got races mixed up, would have 3rd/4th run off. Was only incident I saw in the videos posted up that could have attracted a ban & surely any penalty would be applied straight after the race which would have ruled him out of the meeting

Time to get rid of that man in the middle with the irritating voice imo. Cant wait for the day he hangs up that mic.
*Post adjusted for language. Make that inference again and you will be joining Mr Remnant on the sidelines* Percy
