I'm interested in peoples thoughts on the parking options at & around the track for this event. General discussion is what the thread is about & not negative comments please. I got to the track quite late on Saturday night & know I should have been there earlier as I couldn't find any parking close to the track. I had some gear on the back of my ute so I didn't feel happy about leaving my ute to far from the track so proceeded to head home 4hrs away. A question I would like to ask is, In the past years gone by the Pits were extended into the Grassed Sporting area behind the back straight (directly opposite the Grandstand). If this option was used again to create more Pit area for the Race competitors & then for an Additional Spectator parking area charged at $5 per vehicle per night wouldn't this create a more effecient parking option for everyone. The $5 parking fee per vehicle per night could go towards the costs to lease that area for the two nights parking if of course there is an option to lease it. Hopefully this question will be answered in a good manner by someone who knows for sure any reasons why or why not that grassed area can or can't be used. Palmerston North Speedway & Western Springs have a simular option with parking at there big events behind the grandstand which seems to work really well. If Waikaraka Park continues its progress upwards as it is doing maybe securing some form of a permanent lease option on that area wouldn't be a silly idea to cover any future increase in Competitor & Spectator numbers. This question may have been asked & answered before who knows but I think it warrants further discussion. Thanks for your time & look forward to your comments.

We are allready paying $30 per head entry. Charging a fee for parking where clubs who use public land and parking areas could backfire if the council choose to charge the full cost [mowing, cleanup, repairs, traffic control]to the user/club.

The Club negotiated with the Auckland Council to use part of this area for the 5th group to park for North Island Stockcar Champs. The agreement only allowed tow vehicles and trailers and no parking for the huge rigs and busses. It also had to be the last group racing as they would have less track surface to drop on the grassed area. A large bond was paid to the Council that was refunded once they were happy with the area being returned in its original condition. Your suggestion is something you should put to the Club and Promotion.

From what I have seen all around the country people are happy to pay a few $ for safe parking.

No need to fix something that's not broken is my view.

Fair comments so far guys. I am also happy to pay for parking if it mean't there was no shortage of good secure parking available. I was surprised to see where some vehicles were actually parked on business premises & must have been close to a Tow Away situation but I guess the companies must be happy to go with the flow for that event which is great. Once again tho another secure parking option might help in these situations. Thanks for your comments.

in regards to the sports fields next to the stadium.. they are frequently used on saturdays and some friday nights. when the council does spare some area to extend the pits that is the max space they will lease, as all cricket fields are needed on a saturday(i play cricket there). as for secure parking.. well being a local i know that even the stadium carpark behind the man stand is not all that safe as parking somewhere else.. for one i would not leave anything on a ute even in the carpark, and cars have been broken into in the past.. but yes Joe u have some valid points and maybe u should pass them onto promotions..

One thing that did happen both nights that would be good to avoid, is that cars ended up parked 3 deep. Not helpful if you end up in the middle and have to leave early or pronto.

I vaguely remember that some years ago one of the companies across the road offered secure parking for a fee. Think there was a car auction place there at the time.
