What a season of have and have nots. Have one car but cannot race it. Have not finished other car so cannot race that.
What started out as looking like a big year continually got bigger. And have probably only got myself to blame, so have to take it on the chin. But all good – at least I contributed which is what counts at the end of the day.
In Summary
• Was part of the West Coast Speedway Association that decided to invest in a new Clubrooms – so we built it in a couple of months
• Offered to help fundraiser for said clubrooms by raffling of stockcar – after finally getting DIA approval was limited to selling tickets for only a few months due to their rules
• Was also part of the committee that had to organise the New Zealand Stockcar Grand Prix in January
• Was talked into buying a new tank by a couple of people – so had to build a racecar (with major support from teammates of course)
• Got a bit excited over a few bottles of wine with teammate, and we decided to buy a bus – so had to build a transporter with teammate
• Decided to grow the family and wife is now due any day now
So talk about the have and the have nots – have a bus but have not used it, apart from a couple of short test drives.
Have a new clubrooms, but have not finished the inside – but have finished the raffle so have some funds to give that a real crack.
Have run a successfull NZGP, but have not raced in it due to an unfinished car.
Have run a successful raffle, with a 16 y/o stockcar man winning it – and even better was there to claim the prize at the GP. Have not heard if it has been out for a spin yet, but hopefully next year for them.
So a heap achieved, but nothing achieved racing wise. We are however moving into a brand new deal which is realy exciting and simply would not be possible with the OAS crew not only allowed the workshop to be used to prepare the car, but through putting the motor together from all of the high quality CHS parts, and the million or so other jobs that go into putting a race car together.
We took it from this
To this in longer than hoped, but given the commitment s we all had, probably the right amount of time. Had hoped to debut at the King of the Coast weekend been, but just too many jobs still to complete, and a band new VY V6 to run in – and this motor is tight, hotted up, and at all the maximum sizes, so we want to make sure we do it right.
As you can see we have chrome on one side, and black on the other – hard to decide which is better, but happy to take all feedback as usual.

Here is a video of the first time it was fired up last week – without radiator or water in it, just to make sure it was all good prior to king of the coast. We found a couple of minor issues that tripped us up time wise, that were easy fixes but put us back far enough to miss king of the coast
Anyway, we hope to get the last few jobs done this week, and get out for a skid at the end of season fun day this weekend at Greenstone Park. Great effort by all club members last week to have a fun King of the Coast, and well done to Andy Wright who was the only one to race hard at the KOC from our workshop. Hopefully andy can get an update done on how he found his season soon, and we can get Olly to do a vlog from the workshop - or write an update - soon too.
