Maybe we need a commentator permanently stationed up with the referee at the Palmy teams (who also does all drivers briefings and any other special meetings that may be held). I don't think it's worth it at any other meeting of the year, but the teams has more decisions made and is of more interest to the rabid and parochial fans watching over any other meeting staged each season.

Barry B Probably could be covered by a pit reporter , that seemed to be another aspect missing this year but yes a tech reporter would be good, preferably someone who has read the Teams racing code of ethics too in the case of team champs. Rod's suggestion of the Ref being able to broadcast decisions is good but gut feeling is the ref has enough to do already. It's not like a game with only one ball in play. Palmy , Auckland and just about all the major NZ Champs need it.

Maybe palmy needs a better commentator that is able to relay the info given to him better?

Maybe palmy needs a better commentator that is able to relay the info given to him better? There was obviously a lot of information floating around, on the Friday night especially, and sometimes the phone was likely answered by Russell's lady assistant up there that was doing the music etc. Some of it may have therefore been lost in translation, but one person in the box at such a major meeting is arguably not enough with the amount of information, results, relegations, calls from officials etc that passes through the one room over the course of a night. if the referee has constant communcation with those on the track then i dont see why he cant also be able to directly announce over the venue sound system what the penalty is for. that would stop all the speculation. much the same as happens in American football. "Panthers number 8 excluded for attacking on the grass lap 2 turn 3". all fans are asking for is to hear what he is telling the track officials. how hard is that ? Rod McNaughton told me he would be happy to do exactly that , I didn't think he should have to but I may be wrong. Either way at Palmy I think he may have struggled to get a word in edge ways. lol - understand what you are saying. hopefully a simple instruction to the commentator - "red light on - you shut up " !

Barry B You want to come on a normal meeting night and see how....good the commentary is especially when he doesn't know half the "simple rules"
