Since we now have a sub-board I guess we can stop putting everything into one huge thread.
Pretty sure that somewhere in those pages someone said that the format was settled, does anyone know what it is and what will happen if the Tigers don't make it due to all the cancelled ferries ? And for the love of god don't say we'll fill in the dead time with a six shooter pole shuffle.
Thanks G.

Assuming it stays as 7 teams, I'm picking it will go something like this.
Night 1
Teams Race 1; Team 7 vs Team 6 (Unseeded team 7 vs Unseeded team 6) Teams Race 2; Team 5 vs Team 4 (Baypark Busters 5 vs Unseeded team 4) Teams Race 3; Team 3 vs Team 2 (Nelson Tigers 3 vs Unseeded team 2) Teams Race 4; Team 1 vs Team 7 (Palmy Panthers 1 vs Unseeded team 7) Teams Race 5; Team 6 vs Team 5 (Unseeded team 6 vs Baypark Busters 5) Teams Race 6; Team 4 vs Team 3 (Unseeded team 4 vs Nelson Tigers 3) Teams Race 7; Team 2 vs Team 1 (Unseeded team 2 vs Palmy Panthers 1)
Team 1 = Panthers (last year's winner) Team 2 = random draw (unseeded team 2) Team 3 = Tigers (runner up last year) Team 4 = random draw (unseeded team 4) Team 5 = Busters (third place last year) Team 6 = random draw (unseeded team 6) Team 7 = random draw (unseeded team 7)
Unseeded teams = the Rotorua Rebels, the Auckland Allstars, the Hawkes Bay Hawkeyes and the Manawatu Mustangs, and they will randomly draw a number from 2, 4, 6 or 7 during the Grand Parade which will then slot them in to the draw as above.
Night 2;
Teams Race 1; Semi Final 1; 1st on points vs 4th on points from Night 1 Teams Race 2; Semi Final 2; 2nd on points vs 3rd on points from Night 1 Teams Race 3; 5th on points vs 6th on points from Night 1 Teams Race 4; Race for 3rd & 4th (loser of the 2 Semi Finals) Teams Race 5; Final, race for 1st & 2nd (winner of the 2 Semi Finals)
That give 7 teams races on Friday, 5 teams races on Saturday, 12 teams races in all. Only one team does not get to Teams race on Night 2.

Thanks Barry. All eyes on Cook Strait I guess. Two sailings from Bluebridge canned so far (and three from InterIslander), even if they do start running again with the 2pm sailing today (which is the plan according to their twitter) there will be two ferries worth of trucks sitting at the dock. The Tigers are presumably booked on the Thursday morning ferry to be away from Wellington just after midday and in Auckland Thursday evening, there's not a lot of wiggle room (if they can't get on that one the next sailings are due into Wellington Thursday 5:30pm and 10:30pm), let's hope BB can get 5 boats worth of trucks into 3 boats so we do actually have 7 teams ! G. Edit - the Interislander page shows their 2pm ferry sailed, so looks like the boats are running and the backlog is starting to be cleared

Barry your post starts with the word assuming meaning unconfirmed that is why I asked "Assuming it stays at 7 teams" is how it starts. Obviously if it increases to 8 teams or reduces to 6, everything will have to be re-evaluated, but if everything stays as planned it is as above. I'm sure even if the format changes due to the number of teams (which there is no suggestion at this point in time that there will be any changes), the draw will still be done as part of the Grand Parade. The question related only to when the draw would be done. Let's do it on the terracotta, Barry B

Let's do it on the terracotta, Barry B But there will be six shooters on the terracotta (isn't the closest terracotta track baypark ?) and given a choice between watching that or the sniping that goes on in here ......... G.

I would suspect they've long given up on an 8th team and are going with seven. I'll check it out.

Exactly bowie51v , the whole organisation of this meeting is a stuffup year after year . I really don't think the promotion cares who turns up . Enough $$$$$$$$$$$ is made out of the Palmy event . This was another meeting that I never ever missed , but due to people constantly being left in the dark with whats happening I have canned it .

If the eighth team does come to fruition, the format will revert to a Group competition.
Group A
Palmerston North Panthers (1st last year) Manawatu Mustangs (4th last year) Randomly drawn non-seeded team Randomly drawn non-seeded team
Group B
Nelson Tigers (2nd last year) Baypark Busters (3rd last year) Randomly drawn non-seeded team Randomly drawn non-seeded team
Non-seeded teams = Rotorua Rebels, Hawkes Bay Hawkeyes, Auckland Allstars, Auckland TBA
Night 2
1st Group A races 2nd Group B in one Semi Final 1st Group B races 2nd Group A in other Semi Final 7th vs 8th on points perhaps? 5th vs 6th Race for 3rd & 4th Final for 1st & 2nd

It wouldn't of been hard for an 8th team... if vasey stayed put and then got the likes of bernie fox, darren short, that dane condor 62h and hemi with the brand new gearbox up the vendetta and put Gary lonagan in the other marx beast or slap a pair of hoosiers and extractors on his stockie there's ur 8th team...
