As usual, rumours are flying around. Please don't post unless you know you are 100% accurate - if for nothing more, out of courtesy and respect to the Penn family at this very tough time.

Can anybody tell us what happened to Shane. One of the goodguys in Superstock Racing. Very sorry to hear things went bad for him tonight. Shane was taken off the end of the straight and into the wall during the semi-final race with Auckland. Both cars still carrying a lot of speed. He was removed from the car while still on track and transferred to the ambulance.

Still no word Barry..? Alot of concerned people The family has asked that nothing is said until things are a little better, so we have to respect that. He is a little more responsive this afternoon, and as news comes to hand I promise to keep people updated. The Penn family were one of the first I got to know when I first got involved in speedway, Bryce was my hero and Shane just a kid, so while I appreciate everybody's concern respecting their privacy right now is the most positive thing we can do I think. Thanks Barry B. I truly hope Shane is ok. met him when he came down to christchurch for battle of the stocks, he was so nice him & his wife trying to find me a t shirt that would actually fit me when myself being a small size. I ended up in a kids top cause the smallest womans was slightly too big for me lol lovely guy Shane & his wife is wonderful too. A very pleasant driver to talk too indeed & not rude like most top speedway drivers i have come across.

I know he's not out of the woods, and has some recovering to do, but, whew!!
We had an ambo intervention at Waiuku on Sunday, and briefly I thought of thing's happening in 3's, but driver was ok.
Looking forward to more Allstars - Panther's action in the future.

One of the best, a top ambassador for the sport and genuine nice guy - always willing to spend time talking to speedway fans which we have appreciated. Everyone here in Nelson is thinking of you Shane, we wish you a full and speedy recovery.

I've just had a call from Philippa, Shane's better half, and can now report that Shane is stable, in a lot of pain obviously due to a number of broken bones, and is not allowed any visitors at this stage. Please just don't turn up like some people have, as you will not be allowed in. There are obviously operations to follow, but they are still a little way away at this point in time.
Shane recognises Philippa, recognises her voice, and has asked about Bradley. Please let that squash some of the seemingly inevitable rumours that have been doing the rounds.
Philippa wants to thank everybody for their tremendous support, and has found it all rather humbling and completely overwhelming. The amount of texts and voice messages, on both her phone and on Shane's, has just been so great that she is unable to respond to them all, but really does appreciate that support. She says she had no idea just how popular a competitor Shane is.
She has also said that the care in the hospital has been nothing short of fantastic, and that as soon as they arrived by ambulance on Saturday night the team went to work. Shane has had the best care since, which is great to hear, and I'll bring you another update on here as soon as more news come to hand. It's going to be a long slow haul obviously, and on behalf of ALL macgorians I'd like to offer best wishes to Shane, Philippa, Bradley and all of the Penn family.
