I have changed my attitude with ministocks, as these people do move on to other classes, and I can now watch three races a night without issue. My issue would be of a lacklustre support meet outside of the ministocks. My watching experience suggests the ministocks are the least of my worry. They normally have good numbers, have the odd bingle and provide our next generation racers. On a major NZ title I would have more of an issue with the other support classes. I agree with you that the support programme should be worthy of the main show. I dislike hype, average, average, average, hype, average classes etc A major NZ title should have decent support classes, which includes ministocks. More-so what we need is promoters talking to each other, and organisation.

One would have thought that a Major NZ title that quality support races would increase the gate numbers significantly, and also when pre selling in advance people should be entitled to know what they are paying money up front for. The question has been asked several times what are the support classes? Surely not too difficult a question to answer. I have mentioned to several people about the Major event and have been asked what else is on the programme?. This is in no way taking the gloss off something so exciting, just don't understand why such a secret.

Support classes for the NZ Supersaloons are as follows: Friday 16th - Stockcars, Streetstocks, Ministocks Saturday 17th - Stockcars, Saloons, Ministocks - plus the consolation "21NZ Cup"

Can't agree about a significant increase in gate numbers sorry Trev, Support classes are just that and other than the drivers/crew/family in that class, I doubt any particular support class would attract many extra thru the gates when you are talking about a major class like super saloons. I would agree if we were talking NZ Minisprint or TQ midget champs (with all due respect to the die hards of those two classes) but the "drawcard classes" (for want of a better term) don't need the support classes to sell tickets, that isn't to say the support program shouldn't be as strong as possible. Ppl are buying their tickets to see the NZ Super Saloon Champs at a good venue for that class. I would argue that knowing the entry list is more important than knowing the support classes for a title like this but no one who has pre bought a a ticket expected a full entry list before pre buying their tickets. As an interesting aside, the Mission Estate concert in Napier ALWAYS sells out months before they announce any of the Has beens or never were's artists who are headlining the concert, never mind the support acts.

I guess one consideration for support classes is what they do to the track. It seems to be preferable to have a mixture of narrow and wide tyre classes. So with the hope of giving the main show the best track possible we would not want a big secondary class to over slick the track off.

What about the welly modifieds. Don't ya reckon everyone would be looking for a dust break between the Super Saloon races. Not to mention saving the track as much as possible.

Rammer, some of those "Has Beens" are still "Still Beens". Can't be "Has Beens" if Concert sells out that quick. My interpretation of "Has Beens" is that you can at least understand the lyrics, unlike today's stuff where you have to smoke something to get with it. And some "Has Been " Speedway drivers have and still create a degree of interest. And to Knownotmuch have to agree with your view about balance. I would rather have narrow tyre support classes and a 3 wide race track or the alternative big tyre support and follow the leader one lane main event. Wellington had a superb prepared track for the SSCAR series last year, and I'm sure it can be repeated, and if so no one will be disappointed.

But they are running saloons the second night with wide tyres, also any visiting Stockcars coming as a bit thin with the 240s and the young guns away.

Don't worry about the mods broadside, just more dust in ya hot chips!! Thats why you have your hot dog grades. The thing with a major meeting is you don't have to do a lot to get a great gate take, for that meeting. Put a NZ title on and the people will come. The trouble is there's still the rest of the year, and I believe the support classes show what that might be like. A great time to promote speedway overall, that shouldn't be missed.
