I was there, saw Asher slowing out along the wall in turn one but missed the actual hit (bugger). other accounts also indicate 79p may have also slowed after crossing the line.
rules have been quoted, much speculation and guesturing on the hit etc, however unless we here a direct quote from 79P we may never know his thoughts, reasons etc. Even if it goes to the Board for refereal, somehow 3 different statements from drivers and officals will still cloud what really happened.
The issue of the quality/strength of the welding etc on the Reese built cars has been raised for some time now (and also in the discussion thread on 248's last night). So with the extend of the damage, how much ripped off the car, how those same bars and railes being ripped off did the damage to the top of the motor, headers etc, fuel and oil lines etc, or was it more the bumper from 79p being able to get in there once all the bar work was rippped out. It may be a touchy subject howvever I did see a number of the current young squad of drivers from P make some damming personal connennts after the way Ethans car fodled last year - let alone what has been spoken/ written/ speculate with litte fact on the forums.I am not going to add to any sledging on this however more a bit of where there is smoke there is fire. I know cars bend, some designed to bend more than others, it is only steel being replaced, however in this case the other damage incurred may be expensive, so my though leads along is it design, just one of those hits in the right (or wrong place).
The potential downside to this is a potentially large bill for Reese. Bar work, headers etc can be fixed, however the top of the heads and maybe other area's of the motor seemed to take some considerable damage. Hopefully can be fixed in time for teams without too many late nights
If this was payback from the on-going Reese V's Humphries "rivalr"y, so be it and I am sure 79p knows only too well there will be "consequence" but it would also seem to have created more division within the Palmy ranks. Hopefully the "politics", who suports who, the cheap talk etc does not get in the way of some tough "rivalrty" that can spice up the antisipaction, attract punters etc.
One final note, I believe Asher was already driving with an injury, any word on how he was and did he suffer any more injuries other than the usual bums, brused and a hot bum.

As with ethans incident, a bumper went through his window (and wheel into the hip plate) and struck the halo on his seat. But as with a stand down. Will it be as severe as chad ace's in race incident? Or will he get off will a lighter charge?

Seen the video clip on facebook by A R Motorsport . The hit was definitely put in well after the chequered flag as Asher was slowing down .. No doubt about it , A Real Dirty Shot . Why couldn't Humphreys take a shot at Rees during the race rather than resort to this sort .. Can see a good payback coming ...

I've seen multiple angles of the hit and it doesnt change the fact that the hit was after the flag. I however, am not jumping to conclusions and labeling it a cheap shot - as posted here earlier, word is Kerry was unaware that he had done anything wrong, and didnt see the flags....given the support he has recieved over the years as a clean and professional racer, I will give him the benefit of the doubt. The officials have made their ruling, and Kerry now suffers the consequences. The on track issue has been dealt with, maybe its time everybody else off track does the same.

Unsure of the exact penalties Kerry had gotten, but read somewhere else it was a 2 week stand down and $200 fine. If this is correct he won't be able to race at teams will he? Or because it's not a SNZ event can he?

What was the ruling by the officials Richard? I heard Kerry has received a $200 fine and a 7 day stand down making him all good to go for the teams champs. I guess given the rivalry it makes it harder to give the benefit of the doubt but I certainly agree with your comments.

Not sure you can say there is a problem with Rees built cars like that as a sweeping statement. The laws of physics mean something has to give with such huge impacts, and maybe it's designed so outriggers/ side rails give way before the chassis in behind does? It was only last weekend when a Rees built car 45R barrel rolled at full race pace and seemed to survive that ok! anyway , hopefully the "hole in the motor" referred to in another post is just the tapper cover.

Definitely better the car sustained damage rather than the driver. Remember it was the other way around for the last hit between the two. With only a rudimentary knowledge of physics I am thinking that high tensile steel going at pace on one side and concrete wall on the other that something in the middle had to give way. I think this shows the strength of the Rees Chassis myself - car not driver took the hit.
The AR racing page on FB suggests the damage is not an issue and the engine builder will come to the rescue.
Would not like to be in 79P after teams if he fronts again and suspect the $3000 needed for pay back is already added to the budget.

According to kerry humphrey via fb he says that he put tape on his visor to block the sun but in doing so it also blocks his vision of the light/flags, with a 36 car field, track dusty and being near the back his vision wasnt that good, he attacked asher from a previous meeting but didnt see the chequered flag (other drivers also claimed they didnt see the flag as well.
Sorry i couldnt copy/paste hopefully someone can

After a huge day on the Saturday getting the car race ready we had a very disappointing meeting on the Finals Night of the 248 Global Challenge. With a 36 car field of Superstocks it is a very busy race track and then add in a setting sun (We put tape over the sunvisor to keep the sun from blinding our vision down the back straight but also limits our vision of the flags and lights up high) a very dusting track and plenty of red lights we missing the white and chequered flags while racing at the rear of a battle pack of cars. After going down a lap after getting tangled in one of the many red light stoppages we had our head down racing and when we thought 126p Asher Rees had run wide on a very slick track we grabbed the opportunity for a copycat return walling which Asher did to us at the last Palmerston North Meeting. Unfortunately we missed the chequered flag which had just come down (A number of drivers have told me they also missed it) and the hit then became illegal even though the green lights where still on. The first I knew the hit was after the flag was when Gary Parkes (Drivers Rep) was waiting at my trailer for my first ever visit to the referee’s box. There I was fined and licence suspended for 7 days. This decision was appealed by Asher and a protest committee of the Senior Steward Graham Hughes, Clerk of the course Marty Jones and Drivers Rep Gary Parks was called. The referee’s decision was discussed and we answered a few questions they had for myself and Asher. These three then deliberated this in private and they agreed with the Referee and the original decision stands. I have made contact with Asher and let him know personally in no way did I realise the race had finished and even though I was gunning for him I would never intentionally do anything illegal. This is the first time I have been fined in speedway in over 12 years of being involved in the sport and I plan for it to be the last. Neither of us needed the extra fuel to the fire and the stress of the social media storm which makes everyone an expert and really puts a lot of pressure on us drivers!! Our attention now turns to the biggest meeting of the year with the New Zealand Teams Champs just around the corner. We will be lining up with a great bunch of guys in the Manawatu Mustangs. Many thanks to the crew and to those that went the extra mile on Saturday morning either fixing parts or supplying their own parts so that we could go racing! Cheers Kerry

A fine, and 7 day standown (Kerry's first ever visit to the referees box, and first ever fine) has been confirmed, as well as his explanation of the incident, have been posted to his Facebook page. Kerry explains the ruling was protested, but the original ruling remains. He has made personal contact with Asher, and is looking forward to teams racing with the Mustangs.

Looking at KHs report of the meeting on Face book his lawyer and story tellers must have had a late night.... Sad when it comes to cheap shots marring the meeting and being the focal point of a premier meeting... Heres hoping for the teams the suns down and the flags are bigger and brighter

Yeah cars are made to bend... but not literally fall apart like that. If look at where it has fallen apart you'll see the only reason its let go like that is becuase of the poor welding quality the same as the hole side being ripped off last year at the NZ stockcars... the welds just all let go. Ive seen tacked Rees chassis delivered to owners with half inch gaps in the roll cages and out riggers that there just ment to fill the hole with weld? Now how safe is that? Rees chassis are cheap and theres a reason for that thats why they can pump out so many cars

Talking about cars falling apart it's not very often we see cars fall apart to the extent the ashers did. Watching the inboard it almost seem that because the car didn't go up the to release the energy of the impact it was then transferred back to left of the car which broke parts etc popping Kerrys car up and doing more damage. Teams racing has alot of this kind of damage due to speed differences.
As for the other part of this chat. If you can't see the flags should you be racing? Why would a car leading suddenly slow down by the wall and wasn't the only one going slowly in a conact class.
Can't see flags and light you shouldn't be racing. I've haven't had a problem seeing them in either a Stockcar or a minisprint??
