Hey everyone, Jesse from Full Flavour here. We're the crew providing the streaming service and are running the support centre you can call through to. There were some issues between 7pm and 8pm due to the video system in Palmerston North crashing - a lot of you called through but unfortunately was nothing we could do but wait as Chris and the Videohub team reset all their equipment. Everything seems to be mint now. If you have any issues at all call us on 07 2811872 - there is a large team here standing by to help you. Most calls answered within 60 seconds. We're keeping an eye on your feedback both here and at www.facebook.com/VideohubNZ All the best! What made it crash? these things don't just happen with technology these days!

I was a bit disappointed with the quality of tonight's stream, even taking into account the early issues that were solved.
The stream was a little unreliable and we had to refresh numerous times. The quality of the picture also left a lot to be desired at times, might have been the mobile camera causing the problem.
Biggest issue was the Director who was hit or miss. In particular the coverage in the semi-final between Hawkes Bay and Wanganui was of a poor standard. A couple of other races weren't great either. I felt there was far too much usage of the camera at the gate in turn 1 which doesn't provide a good view of what's happening. I think it's best to save this camera for replays.
Not helping the stream (and not Video Hubs fault) was our main commentator who proved to be a hindrance to understanding what was going on rather than being a help. He was poor and Super Saloon specialist Moffat was no better, commentating with all the enthusiasm of someone calling an egg and spoon race between two 6 year olds. Thank goodness they had Malcolm Sines for the weekend who held the whole show together.
I think Video Hub has a lot of potential but they still have work to do to produce a reliable, professional service that provides value for money.

Hi all, thought I'd give you a quick update. I can't comment on the actual production itself (Full Flavour isn't involved in that) but it was unfortunate the technical issues at the track took down the stream early on. We had the stream playing here and it was without disruption for the remainder of the event and I saw from being next to the team in our call centre that it was smooth sailing for most people (mainly we dealt with password resets and people trying to access on multiple devices). The full replay of both Friday & Saturday will be available at stream.videohub.co.nz Sunday morning after 10am - we're working on putting the replay pieces together now so keep an eye on the page.

Despite the negatives (and yeah, it was frustrating) I'd like to bring a positive and say I loved the piece put together before the meeting where the film crew went to the workshops and to the Miers pad to show what work was involved in the lead up to night 2. On that note, well done! Pity about the unreliability but s..t happens. The more b..ching and moaning that goes on the more chance they will give up like Speedbox and I for one wouldn't want that

The whole stream was a dogs breakfast from the start to finish ,regardless of the issues these streams need in this modern day at a cost to the paying public need to be top rate ,and if the promoter charges a surcharge to lift his coppers then it his or hers responsibility to insure that it has quality ..

Would the moaners be the first to complain if this service ceases to exist? I had the same problems & paid the same price as everyone else last night...... but the fact that it is even available to live stream is awesome. They specifically state that the service can be unreliable & they give no warranties before you pay a cent.....if you don't accept this...then don't purchase the stream. The negative feedback & requests for refunds outweigh the positive comments & that really sucks....... I still saw most of the racing & get to watch replays later today. No it's not live but the best way to guarantee that...... is to spend a few hundred dollars & actually attend the meetings

Dito to the above. I was also a bit peethed with the interruptions but was worth the money. Do the commentary team have access to the footage at the same time. How they made so many mistakes about wheels coming of the wrong cars and various stuff like that. I know it cant be easy and hats of for having a go but need to step up a bit more

I'm grateful for the live streaming option and long may it continue. Sure there were moments of frustration but I'm fairly confident we got to see the great majority of what went down. I had occasion to use the live help facility just before the 2nd night started and found the response time very fast and the problem sorted in short time.
The camera work and directing did improve over the weekend but as Percy says the pit gate camera was used too much . To be honest I'm leaning towards thinking the one or two cameras used on normal nights should be the only ones used for the racing at this meeting also. They generally give a good perspective of what's happening on the track.
All things considered my lust for seeing the action at this the biggest speedway meeting of the year was satisfied. Thanks guys.
The commentating is more of a track issue , Mal Sines did a great job but why oh why wasn't there a knowledgeable assistant beside the regular commentator in the box?

I know it cant be easy and hats of for having a go but need to step up a bit more No, the commentators are commentating on what they can see at the track and the live stream is plugged into them. This is different to how Speedbox covered the Teams when they took their own race caller/anchor (calling off a screen) and their own interviewer, but there's obviously extra costs associated with this. Speedbox never had, sadly, the roving camera that Mal Sines had with him this year, and that totally changed (read improved) that part of the coverage. But so long as there's not a dedicated race caller on the stream you're going to get commentary and pictures not lining up from time to time. Barry B

Good afternoon all. Full replay from both nights is available at stream.videohub.co.nz. No login required (some people had login issues) so we've taken the paywall off since most of you did pay. Jesse at Full Flavour.

I'm interested to see how this discussion goes, Livestream is new to drift in NZ this year and there has been a lot of debate as to who the commentary is really for, those at the track or those watching and seeing a different perspective via cameras that can show a very different story.
Based on what I've personally been told about calling races, Mal Sines got a bit yelly and excited on the infield, which needed to be taken down a little volume wise as I doubt he could hear himself at all and would have just been going with it.
Need a director whos seen teams if Auckland is doing the same ( probably a good idea as everyone hates AK friday traffic and goes home) and maybe a co-director with the commentary team to make the stream flow slightly better,

Stream was pretty good overall, if you were to try and improve it then perhaps - not sure how experienced the pit gate cameraman was, very shaky at times along with leaving the camera on a couple of times showing grass/ dirt - Was there a director solely watching the racing and calling cameras ? Was that person a 'fan' who could see things about to happen having seen teams before? - Malcolm Sines was working hard, and it was a shame that he ' lost his cameraman' a few times and what he was saying didn't relate to what anyone could see - Commentary is a personal thing, for me its nostalgic that its still the same guy, but it was notable the difference in standard between the prior years highlights to the live (yes I know delays are easier but some calllers are more seemless than others - learn from the aussie cricketers and find some ' fans' in the audience who warrant a little screen time I'll watch it again tonight as its cheaper than $200 for 4 tickets, I was working with Steve (cameraman on pit gate). the biggest problem with filming there (but also a big bonus) is that u are only two feet away from the track. and that includes the pit gate. and everytime a car goes past you you get showered in mud, dirt, stones and dust. just ask my partner when she saw me after the meeting. my clean overals at the beginning of the night were covered in mud front and back. as well as my hat. i also had goggles on all night as she said i looked really funny with a clean face where the goggles had been and the rest of my face covered in a mud and dirt mask. lol
