G,day im Mike Jansen, not to be confused with the famous Mike Hansen, im an Upper Hutt boy by birth so TE Marua is holy ground for me, currently living in auckland, my inspiration comes from a story i read on a forum or in a waikaraka programme, its about a woman who had been a fan for a long time, she was sitting in the crowd one day and said to herself, i can do that! she has since gone on to race a stockcar, i dont know why but i got the impression this happened recently, possibley this season, doesnt matter, i hadnt thaught about driving a stockie for 12 years cause i was living in europe, got back for the start of this season, went to the track, fell in love with watching stockies again, so when i read this persons story, it hit me, if she can do it , (coming out of the stands), so can I. So, from today I have a small budget in place, and am searching for my 1st stockie, one day ill join my heroes on the track, and maybe ill get to drive on my hometown dirt after all. ;D ;D Zitadel

Hi my name is Shane Walsh
I have watched speedway since I was a 7 year old mainly at Western Springs. As I sat with my father, my brother walked around the terraces selling potato chips for 9 pence!!!
My 1st taste of speedway from the other side was when my brother in law Richard Legg (#33) raced stockcars at Waikaraka Park in the late 70's I crewed for him - then my son Stevie started racing 1/4 midgets in the early 90's then to sprintcars and recently midgets.
Even though I watch open wheel racing more often I really enjoyed watching the stockcars occassionally at Forest Lake in Hamilton - I think (if my memory is correct) Dexter Dunlop in a blue stockcar was AWESOME there!!! Also I love the stockcar teams races.
Whenever the Springs wasn't on we would normally go to Waikaraka.

hey! well most people know me, but for those that dont, im Mathew Fergusson im 26yrs old and have been involved in racing since jan 1980. My dad Paul drove stockcar 89a for about 16yrs on and off, mainly off as he broke his back 19days before i was born. Waikaraka was my home track unfortunatly i dont call it home anymore, Huntly is now home to me as i now live in the waikato.Crewed for John Scott on his 15A super and 6a mod before moving onto crew for 19a Scott Lane for 3yrs. Started racing as a 16yr old in a modified, the ex 99a of jamie fox, ran it for 3yrs as 91a,97r,97h before selling it to move on, have raced every class there is to race except productions and minisprints. Went to Brisbane and drove thier formula 2 stockrods aswel as a sprintcar. Spent a year in a std stock (04/05) 15H, before injuring myself at the nth islands in Wanganui. Brought a lemon of a TQ which i only raced at Napier and W/P then gave it away. Have now purchesed a modified to come back in next season, so look out for the new 96H (cant have 97 as another Matt has it ) cant wait to be back on track in the class i love the most! PS- TG (13H) ill miss racing with you when i return.

Hey my names Harmon Rewiri, im 23 years old and ive been brought up around Speedway since the age of 4 thanks to my older brother and my cousins and an uncle who raced the ex adrian barnes car in wangas back in the mid 80's. Used to live in upper hutt so I went to the Te Marua track alot and now I live in Wanganui and have been since I was 6. Ive driven a ministock and a production saloon but that was only during a track day. Was heaps of fun though! Love going to the teams champs in palmy. have been going to every 1 since 1994 and will never miss it even if it meant not going to my own mothers funeral! (jokes!) would also like to see the warriors finally win the bloody thing after years of coming so close. Would love to race a stockcar 1 day but my bank account wont allow it so for now i'll stick to being a grandstand racer and a wannabe professional speedway photographer. Cheers.

Hi there, My name is Carlee-Maree Wilkinson and I'm 6 years old. My first experience of speedway was when I was 6 months old at the NZ Teams champs at Palmerston North. I went there with my Dad (whose been involved with speedway since the late 80's), Mum (whose Dad used to race in Palmy), my sister who also went to her first speedway meeting at 6 months old and my uncle Mel. My uncle Mel used to race a A-Grade Stockcar and he was registered at the Mount and Huntly (10M - 10H).
We all live in Paeroa and we are quite lucky with the tracks near us, Waikaraka Park, Baypark, Huntly, Rotorua and others. I've been too most of the tracks in the North Island. My favourite class is the Superstocks as well as the Super Saloons, Modifieds and Sprint Cars, but speedway overall. Me and my Dad are fans of Skinny Colson, Roger Bertram, Craig Boote, Wayne Hemi, Rodney Wood, Rex Neild, Murray Hobbs, Tony MacLanahan, Steve Kinser and many many more..... Mum is a Tony Galbraith fan.
One more think before I go, my Dad loves playing Stockcar Heat.
Hope to spend many more years at speedway and look forward to seeing you there...........Carlee.

Hi. Well I am Jeremy Fleming, Been involved in speedway for a while now, it started when i was a child and i went to the guy fawkes meeting in rotorua each year, i was afraid of the fireworks every year, but i liked to go back, then a few seasons after the introduction of youth ministocks the announcer said about how they are raced by 12-16 year olds, so i asked my father for one, and being the spoiled brat that I am, got one in the form of A rotorua Club Car which was hired to us for the season, after which we built a new one with the much needed help of Duncan Ruthe, and when we realised the rollcage was much to small for myself, we built another this time, a rollcage much much bigger than we needed, and kept the spare for my younger sister Ashton whom has just finished her 1st season at rotorua very successfully. After enjoying watching my racing for a season, dad went into the process of putting a superstock together, getting a nice new kuriger copy chassis from duane rolfe and purchasing kyle frasers toymotor, after half a season racing, the car was beggining to get some pace up, and it certainly looked the part, unfortuanately there was a fire, and we lost the car. Now Dad has purchased Ian Bursans Car from nelson, and raced this full season, after some decent damage to the side rail, and torshion bars, the car was converted to coil overs, and the very next meeting, suffered from some engine damage taking the car out for the season, I was hoping for a drive, but thats where i come in, will gladly be driving the superstock next season. thanks for listening to my life story, at least the speedway part of it.

Been meaning to add to this thread for weeks, but I'm well known for being a little slow.
Barry Brown, aged wayyyyyyy old, have never raced competitively apart from Picnic Days years ago (and the odd Commentator's Challenge). Won first ever race from the back of the grid in the Clark Proctor built ex Steve Williams Ford Falcon Streetstock, thought "this is easy", then promptly finished upside down in my Superstock debut. The Ford 6 Kuriger (what was it with Fords those days??) was later repaired by its sponsor, Bill James Panelbeaters, who these days is better known as macgor.
Also had a skid in a Garry Parker Modified, Kevin Fillingham's and Tony Redfern's Super Saloons, Ray Duncan's RX7 Ltd and a Steve Burley Superstock, amongst others, but the two most memorable experiences would be hanging of the side of Rob Jennings wheelstanding Sidecar around Paradise Valley, and hanging on in the back of the two-seater Sprintcar behind Allan Wakeling around Baypark.
The latter was done whilst commentating live from the car, as were two Demo Derbies at the same venue. Spent two seasons spectating, but did get back into commentary a little in 06/07 doing a few guest spots at major Stockcar shows at the likes of Woodford Glen, Palmerston North, Kihikihi & Paradise Valley.
Not sure when I first attended speedway, but my father did take me to Waikaraka a few times in what would have been their early years, late sixties. Drifted away from the sport for ages, but began attending both the Springs and the Park again in the early eighties. Attended the NZ Stockcar Champs at Paradise Valley in 1985, and was hooked. After that I became a fan of travelling in search of the big meeting, much more than staying loyal to one club.
The late John Webster (whom I was introduced to by the now late Ollie Browne) got me involved in photography at Waikaraka Park in the 88/89 season, and I travelled to the UK with Dave Tennant after he won his NZ title in 1989. Began writing for NZDTR at that point. Produced quite a number of pages for that mag over the ensuing 15 summers.
Over the next few years I travelled to, and photographed, at every NI speedway, and a few in the South. Wrote and photographed for souvenir programs (a few even won awards) for many clubs during that time, including Auckland, Huntly, Baypark, Rotorua, Stratford and Wanganui.
Some lovely person stole all my camera gear just before season kickoff a few years ago, and Mal Sines conned me into the commentary box at Huntly one night. We had fun, so we did some more. We then moved onto Waikaraka for a year, Jamie McCarthy joining us. We had a ball, but Wai Park and politics always go hand in hand and Mal went back to Huntly, Jamie to the Springs and me to Baypark.
Also got to commentate at many major events at other venues too, including Nelson, Palmerston North, Stratford, Rotorua, Whitianga (yeah, okay, we were bribed with race drives too hahaha), Huntly, Meeanee and Gisborne, and had a lot of fun on the way. Have only done one Kihikihi date over last two summers, so well rusty. Other than Mal and Jamie, I've been privileged to work with Mintie, Paul Hickey, Brian BK Kelly, Dave "The Mouth" Birdling, Ray Tarrant and Roger Tonkin......all great ambassadors of our sport.
I've got to meet so many of today's top racers, and legends from the past, many becoming friends. I've met the macgor's and the Tim S's, the Percy's and Yaz's, but I'm making a real crap spectator so I just might have to look for something to do again next season..........
