Love to hear more about 8!a.
When was the last time a flat chassis qualifies at the NZ title?
What a cool looking car. Has it been winning at other tracks? Seems a Bolter?

Admittedly I'm not a Waikaraka regular but when I've been there he's done absolutely nothing of note
Didn't look all that fast either when compared with the elite contenders but just put together lap after lap after lap with reasonable pace and mistake free racing
A great story

Can you elaborate on a flat chassis (for the uninitiated)?. I'm assuming you mean the old school stock cars?

The chassis side rails and main beams are in a line. Then space frames came in allowing more impact absorption and better handling. Tanks are a different kettle of fish being a tub design, but less impact on the driver. Then there is high tensile space frames. Of course there are my favourite, tri-rails.

They are commonly in a diamond shape looking side on at the car. The flat chassis if looked at side on the bottom part of the chassis is flat (very strong) and then the driver compartment and engine bay are built on top. Do have a look at one if you see one they are interesting to compare. Bruce Harding used one to great effect last year at NZ Stockcar teams last year

96a and 64a were both flat chassis that qualified for the NZ's in Auckland a few years back.

Now that will take a real historian to find when the Kat one of those made it! Krizo thanks for the heads up - Auckland would be close to 8 years ago? Maybe 10? How did 8a go last night? And didn't bill peat run a charger street stock for years, it's not one of his motors from the past? Classic

Logan Peat 8a, first year rookie and qualifies for NZ finals. Drove smart with smooth laps no sliding into corners and never really lost places during his qualifying heats, running a really small rr wheel which seemed to work well. Looks old school but car is new. Bill Peat makes a mean looking stocky. I have some shots of it at the first practice this season and Ill try and find them. Probably the youngest driver in the field(?) and Auckland also provided the oldest with Billy Neill 168a apparently 68 years young! These shots from the grid before first finals heat, incredibly exciting atmosphere with the last minute instructions etc...
